Iris Mysteria - Priscilla's tastes were top tier. Lydia, come here!

Iris Mysteria (あいりすミスティリア！～少女のつむぐ夢の秘跡～) is a gacha game released in 2018 by August. The company is well known for developing high-quality visual novels but, like many others, migrated to gacha games to try to survive in a much more competitive market.

I played this game for several years, but I am not up to date with the latest releases, so my opinions reflect the state of the game at the time I stopped playing in 2023. I plan to write several posts about it, with this first one covering the series and gameplay in general, while future posts will go deeper into specific characters and themes.

The story follows the adventures of Hades, a former celestial being who, for some reason, built his own realm separate from the others. After saving the world from destruction when the World Tree caught fire, he fell into a deep sleep. He only awakens one year later when a mysterious girl named Yuu appears before him.

Priscilla was definitely my favorite because of her tendencies to appreciate other girls too. She self called herself "oshiri sommelier" for a reason.

Yu was a great partner and a good "voice" for the protagonist, but we'll talk more about her in a coming post in the near future.

She proclaims that she is a "spirit of the World Tree" and asks for his help to resolve the situation in the overworld. It seems pieces of the World Tree have scattered across the globe, granting abnormal powers to those who absorb them. This could cause chaos, so the pieces must be gathered back.

Together with his trusted assistant, Beatrice, Hades and Yuu travel across the land to try to recover all the seeds. During their journey, they befriend various girls who have absorbed these seeds under different circumstances, creating a group to help him in this quest. Each of these girls is known as an "Iris."

I wasn't a huge fan of the Clair/Ladis interaction to be honest, but hey still cute.

Thus begins a story of adventure, drama, comedy, and a hint of romance as Hades uncovers the truth behind the event that caused the World Tree to burn. While at the base, the girls act as normal students with Beatrice as their tutor, allowing for plenty of natural romantic comedy scenes as well.

The gameplay is a turn-based RPG in which you can form a team of up to five Iris characters, equipping them with various items to increase their power. While it is simple to start, new systems added over time have increased the complexity, which might be overwhelming for someone just catching up.

The Kulcha / Porin combo was the funniest. Especially because of the ambalance between their body types despite Kulche being the disciple.

Lydia switching side and joining the Iris was the pivotal moment that sealed this game for me. I love her and it's a shame she doesn't get enough scenes!

As this is a gacha game, you will need to perform rolls to obtain various SSR costumes for the heroines. All the Iris characters are unlocked by default for all players, but powerful costumes are only available through the gacha. Unless you are aiming to complete high-level content, the entire story can be experienced with just a few good cards.

The game is divided into three difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. Normal stages can be cleared with almost any team, but Hard and Very Hard stages require more strategy. I remember the final battles of the first chapter being quite difficult. I only managed to clear them after obtaining the "Grand" version of Chris. "Grand" refers to the limited-series versions of the SSR heroines, which possess much more powerful skill sets, similar to the Grand units in Granblue Fantasy.

Fam was another character that I really wasn't that much interested into. Elmina was fine, but again... a bit forgettable.

Each season brings new cute scenes and costumes, here with Ashley and Kulche in christmas outfit. Ultra cute as usual.

The game has also featured collaborations with other titles from August, so you can actually use heroines like Erika from Fortune Arterial or Feena from Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na. While they don't necessarily fit the setting, it is always nice to see them again.

It is difficult to choose a favorite among the 30 heroines available when I played, but Priscilla and Lydia are at the top of my list. Priscilla is the youngest sister of Rugenia and the princess of the Kingdom of Paruvin. Unlike her more action-focused sister, she is a genius strategist who controls the movements of the country during these dangerous times. She is the brain behind many operations in the game and, as a bonus, she is frequently involved in yuri-style situations with the other heroines.

Gizeric, put your hands down from my Chris. She's a priestess you know? A bit pervert, but still a princess!

The dedication of Beatrice for protagonist was incredible even though it takes a while to get accustomed to her.

Lydia, on the other hand, is one of the first antagonists in the story. She is a young angel under the control of the heavens who initially opposes Hades. However, during the story, she is betrayed and switches sides to become an Iris. She becomes so adorable that it is hard not to like her. I believe she was the first major character added to the Iris roster after the game's release, and the online excitement surrounding her debut was very evident.

In my next article, which I will publish in a week or so, I will focus more on the storyline and highlight the role of the main heroine, Yuu. I will explore who she is and how her presence impacts the game. I may also discuss some of the other heroines if time permits.
