Seiyuu Radio no Ura Omote - Yuri? Definitely yuri! Yumiko x Chika!December 17, 2025 · 8:01 PM

Seiyuu Radio no Ura Omote (声優ラジオのウラオモテ) is a comedy/yuri light novel series written by Kou Nigatsu and illustrated by Saba Mizore. The series started in 2020 and currently has 13 volumes (plus one side story volume), of which I have currently read 12 (plus the side story).

The story follows the life of two seiyuu going by the stage names Yasumi Utatane (a gal-looking extrovert and confident girl, whose real name is Yumiko Sato) and Yuuhi Yuugure (a shy and introverted girl, whose real name is Chika Watanabe). Trouble starts when they realize they attend the same school and are forced to interact with each other at work and at home.

The managers of each side set up a radio show for the two, using the excuse that they attend the same school as a "card" to grab popularity. The issue is that the two are on really bad terms due to their differences in lifestyle. They, of course, are professionals, so they try not to let this show during the broadcast, but they bicker non-stop once the microphones are off.

Yumiko's dream is to become a seiyuu for a Precure anime series, which is sort of the pinnacle someone in the industry can achieve (this is actually covered in the 12th volume). Chika's dream is to work on as many anime as possible produced by her father, who is a director.

The story covers multiple events as the two protagonists keep growing and improving their careers between setbacks and inevitable challenges. You will have emotional moments, like the walk back from school to get permission to continue being seiyuu, and more cute moments like Chika and Yumiko having a bath together.

There is a level of depiction of the seiyuu life that, while of course embellished for story purposes, is actually quite informative about the typical work situations they go through. You get to see auditions, radio shows, idol events, recording sessions, and much more.

I really love the dynamic between the main two girls. While they bicker, they really care for each other, but don't want to show it because they are "rivals." Plus, watching Chika demand food cooked by Yumiko is always adorable; living with a workaholic mother really deprived Chika of these home-cooked experiences.

The yuri undertones are there and they are undeniably strong, even if they never actually make it explicit. This is actually the type of yuri I like the most—getting closer and closer slowly as they learn more about each other's lives without jumping through the steps immediately.

stop blushing! stop blushing!

Of course, I would love to see them going out at some point in the future, but I doubt they will ever be honest enough to actually go for it anytime soon. There are also other seiyuu pairs that hint at that level of relationship, but the attention of the series is mostly on the protagonists, so we don't get to see much about it.

Aside from the two protagonists, we have other seiyuu appearing in the story. There is the ultra-popular and model seiyuu Otome Sakuranamiki (honestly a bit boring as a character due to how "perfect" she is depicted), and the closet-otaku seiyuu Mekuru Yubisaki (who is downright adorable as she is a fan of both Chika and Yumiko, but keeps that a secret at the beginning).

Very wet Yumiko and Chika!Very wet Yumiko and Chika!

I am going to read the last volume available in the coming days and hopefully I will be back here to talk about it soon. Hopefully with some new yuri news!
