Spy Kyoushitsu Vol 15 - The truth behind Lily and Sybille! Final mission?

Volume 15 of Spy Kyoushitsu continues the preparations for the final mission against Klaus and all the other global factions attempting to seize control of the Naraku Ningyou biological weapon. Honestly, though, this volume felt largely like a side story dedicated to Sybille, exploring her past and how the girls are connected to the project. We even got a glimpse into Grete's background as well, with her father apparently being a politician.

The main premise is that the Tomoshibi team is currently on the run, needing to secure new allies in order to uncover the truth. During this endeavor, they are relentlessly pursued by three elite enemy spies from other nations, and the volume primarily showcases their struggle to survive while gathering additional intel about the weapon.

I always had the image of someone younger, but after all Sybille is the older sister for the team regardless of age.

One of the coolest art of the series so far. Quite like her expression here.

Apparently, the initiative was originally named Naraku Kairai, and they kidnapped countless children to serve as test subjects for the weapon. Sybille's siblings were caught in the crossfire and killed by one of the spies six years ago, which sent her on a vengeful killing spree to track down the culprits. Little did she know that this information would prove vital now, as the underlying connection remains intact.

This also ties back to Lily: her codename "Hanazono" comes from the village where she was raised. Apparently, it was built exclusively to rear children destined for these experiments, which is where she acquired her trademark immunity to poisons. Naturally, this is where the story will ultimately lead, as it is reportedly where Naraku Ningyou is being kept.

Yeah, at the end Eruna and Annette also get roped into the whole maid thing to gather money. Adorable, just plain adorable!Yeah, at the end Eruna and Annette also get roped into the whole maid thing to gather money. Adorable, just plain adorable!

The characters speculate that the weapon cannot be easily moved, meaning everyone will soon converge on its location and trigger a massive battle. Even Klaus, who has already secured control over the nuclear weapons, will head there, setting up a battle royale that will likely span multiple volumes.

Regardless, the series is slowly drawing to a close, and I feel we might reach the conclusion within two or three volumes at most, perhaps with a few side-story volumes along the way. While I love the franchise, I still feel the narrative lost a bit of its charm after the timeskip leading up to the clash against Nike.

Lily moment to shine in the volume. She's grown so much since the beginning of the series!

Poor Sybille being forced to work overtime as a cat maid to gather funds for the team. She's the older sister sure, but girl need some break too!

Part of what made this series so enjoyable was the chemistry between Klaus and the girls, but from that point onward, those interactions largely disappeared. Sure, we received more solo focus on the girls, but it never quite felt the same. But hey, at least we now know that Monica and Lily are apparently living together as partners! The yuri dynamic between Eruna and Annette is also growing stronger with each volume, though I doubt the two of them are quite as overt as Monica and Lily.
