Deatte Hitotsuki de Zecchou Jorei - Kaede is definitely the best heroine.

Deatte Hitotsuki de Zecchou Jorei! (出会ってひと突きで絶頂除霊) is a romantic comedy light novel series with supernatural elements written by Hirotaka Akagi (author of the popular Shimoneta series, among others), illustrated by Mataro, and published under the GaGaGa Bunko label. The series is complete with 12 volumes (2017-2025), and I have already read the first 10 volumes.

If you know about the other series by this writer, you can guess what I am about to write. The story follows Haruhisa Furuya, a high school student at the famous Taima Academy, a school focused on training exorcists to fight against evil spirits and monsters. He is a rather mediocre exorcist and tries to live a normal life at school.

The issue is that he has a special ability he awakened long ago after interacting with and absorbing a relic of the Succubus King. It is called "Climaxing Exorcism," and it allows him to make the target visibly climax and be exorcised at the same time. He used it for the first time against the spirit of his father during an incident years before the story began, when his father reached Level 7 on the apparition scale (the highest possible level). This is still a major trauma for Haruhisa, and he wants to avoid using this power at all costs to preserve his social life.

Souya Misaki, the daughter of a powerful clan of exorcists, takes an interest in Furuya's ability because she has problems of her own. She got involved with another relic of the Succubus King that gives her the power to see people's secrets just by looking at them. By secrets, I mean things like "number of partners," "date of first time," "fetish list," and so on.

I'm weak for the "long dedicated girls" trope and Kaede fits right in. I hope she wins...I'm weak for the "long dedicated girls" trope and Kaede fits right in. I hope she wins...

Together with a few other students, they form a new exorcist group trying to find a way to remove these relics from their bodies and return to their normal lives. As the story progresses, they encounter other people with Succubus King relics and, through various comedic and ecchi scenes, try to find a solution to their issues.

The series follows an "episodic" approach, with a new weird spirit appearing and becoming the focus of what our "heroes" need to solve. Of course, the story moves along, and there is progress regarding the Succubus King relics situation and the masterminds trying to resurrect him.

The main heroines of this story are:

Souya Misaki

The main heroine of the story. She has the Succubus King's Evil Eyes, and she is doomed to never have a normal romantic life because it is hard to have one when you see the deepest desires of anyone you look at. She doesn't realize her feelings for Haruhisa at the beginning, but keeps acting very jealous whenever another girl hangs around him. She is actually quite a good exorcist, as shown by her quick progress once she started keeping the eyes under control.

Kuzunoha Kaede

The childhood friend of Haruhisa. She is a master exorcist and the strongest one in the academy. She feels guilty for the event that caused Haruhisa to get that power and tries her best to take care of him. She has been deeply in love with him since childhood, but the feeling of guilt keeps her from pursuing him openly. She becomes a bit more honest with herself in the later volumes.

All five of them (Misaki, Kaede, Sakura, Shizuka and Mutsumi) are stunning when wearing a swimsuit. All five of them (Misaki, Kaede, Sakura, Shizuka and Mutsumi) are stunning when wearing a swimsuit.

Fumidori Sakura

An imouto-like character who gets sent by the exorcist higher-ups to keep an eye on Haruhisa to make sure his power doesn't go berserk. She is, of course, in love with Haruhisa for many years and uses this opportunity to get closer to him. This puts her at odds with Kaede and Misaki.

Enju Awarajibe

A young girl descended from the nine clans of exorcists. She has the power to manipulate fate and probabilities. She gets kidnapped by a criminal for her power, and Haruhisa fights to save her. She is another one of the "Succubus King relic owners" at the beginning of the story, like Haruhisa and Misaki.

Karasuma Aoi

One of the first girls to join Misaki and Haruhisa's team. She is a dropout like them for other reasons, and she has quite powerful binding magic that can keep even extremely powerful spirits in check. The issue is that she is only interested in using it on other girls she is interested in. She is very yuri, yes.

My favorite character is, without a doubt, Kaede because I am totally a sucker for the kind of girl who has been dedicated to the protagonist over the years. Plus, she is kind of a tsundere, which is a plus in my book. I hope she manages to get a happy ending by the finale of the series. I mean, it is a crazy comedy already, so surely they can make Haruhisa the Succubus King and just let him be with all of the girls, right?

The series is a blast to read, though I really suggest you turn off your brain while reading. I am going to read the last two volumes in the next few weeks, and I hope to come back to write more about it soon.
