Devil-chi Vol 1,2 - Yomina is so absurdly adorable! *headpat*
Devil-chi is a romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Musuaki that ran from 2016 to 2021, with a total of 15 volumes released. It caught my attention because, despite the high volume count and standard romantic comedy premise, it somehow never received an anime adaptation.
The story follows Hino Fuyuki, a normal high school boy who somehow gets involved with the "lone wolf" Sakuba Yomina, a beautiful girl at his school whom nobody really manages to interact with. The thing is, she's not actually a lone wolf; she is just extremely shy, and she happens to be a succubus on top of that.

Of course, "succubus" is a strong word for someone who is too afraid to even strike up a conversation with another girl, but that's another matter. Fuyuki learns her secret, so the two start getting closer, and... you can pretty much guess the rest of the story from this point on without me spelling it out.
More heroines appear, such as Eru Enji from the angel faction, and the romantic comedy shenanigans become increasingly complicated as supernatural elements mix with classic rom-com tropes we all know and love. So far, across these first two volumes, we've only scratched the surface, though; not much has been revealed about why Yomina is so important, considering she's just a half-succubus.

Yomina is an adorable character and I'm really loving her. She is completely out of touch with everyday reality and often does things so embarrassing that it's hard to read without cringing, like the scene (see screenshot) where she walks all the way from home wearing just her school swimsuit on the way to the pool. Yes, Yomina, they told you to wear the swimsuit UNDER your clothes, not like that...
There has been a bit of foreshadowing showing other angels, even higher-ranking ones, stationed at the school to monitor Yomina, but nothing has really been explained yet. Their character designs don't do much for me right now, but that might just be because they've only appeared in a panel or two.

I'll be continuing with the series over the coming days and making more posts, and I'm really excited to see where this leads. Somehow, simple series like this end up grabbing my attention far more than bigger titles. Am I really getting old? Nah, it must be everyone else who is wrong!
