Fuyukara, Kururu - The truth under the snow. Chiemi was the cutest!
Fuyukara, Kururu is a science fiction/mystery visual novel developed by SILKY'S PLUS and released in 2021. It follows a completely linear plot with no routes whatsoever. Of course, the story still has a few Bad Ends containing a bit of information, but those do not really branch the storyline.
The story follows Soraoka Yuuhi, a young girl in a strange boarding school completely isolated from the outside world. In this school, all the girls are immortal (terms and conditions apply, but we will talk about that later), and they keep moving up and down in age (up to adult and then back to baby) in a continuous cycle they call "reincarnation."

The only way to graduate from this school is to become a prodigy in a particular field, noticed by someone observing them from the outside. The moment this condition is met, the girl immediately disappears from the school and is never seen again by the other students. Yuuhi is studying chess algorithms as her field to become a prodigy while also being quite popular for her reasoning ability.
Yuuhi has a close friend and roommate named Shimoyuki Shihon, with whom she is clearly in an "almost lovers" relationship. The story starts with a bang when Shihon is killed and her headless body is found in the meditation room. It is then revealed that the girls' immortality works as long as the head can be sent for processing within a few days of death. That leads Yuuhi to muster her courage and start investigating the murder to find the culprit and locate the missing head.

There are various separate story threads that Yuuhi goes through that all seem completely disconnected, such as the "Black Needle" curse. It seems to be common knowledge that a lot of the girls disappearing from the school, or to put it in their terms "graduating," all start dreaming of a black needle in the few days prior.
The story likes to disseminate information. While it is technically possible to find the truth of the mystery on your own, you will be hard-pressed to find some of the very subtle hints they leave. I was completely in awe when the final revelation came in and everything became clear.

This visual novel has plenty of yuri between characters, with multiple couples being slowly built up in the game. However, the romance never really takes over the main focus of the story, which revolves around the murder mystery and the revelation of the truth behind the girls and this mysterious school.
Aside from Yuuhi and Shihon, the main characters of this story are:
Hoshito Chiemi, the student council president with high morals and an adorable small girl. She is short-tempered, which only makes her even more adorable to the eyes of everyone else. She is in the same type of yuri-ish relationship with the vice president, Touko, who loves teasing her.
Kikuma Touko, the vice president of the student council. She is a lot more pragmatic and calculating compared to Chiemi and is usually the one who suspects other people (including Yuuhi) and asks uncomfortable questions.
Mizuna Torineko, a mutual friend of Yuuhi and Shihon. She is the School Martial Arts Club President, something she is extremely proud of. This ties into a very peculiar ecchi scene during a mock battle against Vika.

Okibi Yodomi, an extremely shy and moody girl who seems to love stalking Yuuhi. She wields a knife, but her personality gives it away easily that she is hardly the type of character capable of keeping secrets.
Tsukikadojima Vika, a mysterious girl who seems to be at the center of the strange happenings. She appears even in the prologue and seems to know more than anyone else about what is happening in the school, but she is very careful about what she reveals to others.
Ugajima Berlin, the coroner of the school and twin sister of Yukari. She is tasked with the retrieval and reincarnation of the girls.
Ugajima Yukari, the "school-sanctioned assassin" who loves gardening as a hobby. Why does the school have someone tasked with committing murder? It is a deeply important part of the story, so to avoid spoilers, I will leave it to you to discover.

I didn't have a specific favorite heroine in the story, but I really loved watching the interactions between Chiemi and Touko. Touko's teasing of Chiemi was fun at the beginning, but watching the relationship invert with Touko longing for more physical contact with Chiemi was also endearing.
If you are looking for an interesting mystery visual novel, this is a solid title to read. It is not extremely long (around 20 hours), and the pacing and revelations are well-managed to keep you always on your toes, wondering what is going to happen next.
