Ghost in the Shell (2026) Ep.06 - Public Security Section 1, run away Motoko!

Episode six of Ghost in the Shell (2026) delivers another episodic story focused on Motoko's past before joining Public Security Section 9. I'm still a bit unsure whether or not I like this approach. It's nice to know the story will conclude within the episode, but it also breaks the immersion a bit since they can't build out complicated stories this way.

One of the charms of the original series was that everything led to the final confrontation; even side plots were still connected organically. I'm genuinely curious if this is more accurate compared to the manga or not. It feels a bit nostalgic for the old era, like Jigoku Shoujo, so it might be like how the original handled it.

You easily forget that Motoko is fully cyborg when you look at her normally, but once the skin goes down because of some fight...

As usual nice placement for some fanservice without looking over the top, she's just there and it looks great. Good approach

This week's episode is set in an imprecise timeline where Motoko is having a romantic relationship with a member of Section 1, and they get bombed by an unknown terrorist. Both survive the assault, but the culprit is revealed to be the only terrorist Motoko failed to kill in her past as a mercenary.

The chase continues through the episode, culminating in a huge fight against soldiers and a giant armored military unit, leading to both Motoko and Togusa getting heavily injured. It turns out that Public Security Section 1 made a pact with the terrorist, hoping to catch another criminal named Anaconda in exchange for Motoko.

I like how the clothing damage on Motoko's body was perfect to show her thighs. You know, bullets do that to you don't they?  View video page

The situation is defused when Aramaki arrives at the headquarters of Section 1 and threatens the leader, but it's still problematic when different parts of the same government fight each other at the bidding of uncertain information given by a terrorist. You know, it doesn't inspire trust...

I remember Motoko being superhuman in the original anime series, but the struggle here is real and shows how much of a difference a fully armored mecha makes, even against the fully cybernetic Motoko. You know, she has a more human side here that felt lacking in her role in the past.

I'll be fully honest, initially I was 'who is this woman who look a lot like Motoko?' when I saw the new hair color and the uniform.

I guess it didn't work as well as she thought it would. Poor Motoko, clearly not very lucky when choosing people?

One Fuchikoma gets destroyed in the battle, but thankfully they're immune to death, as their minds are stored in a server somewhere in the world. In the original, it was inside a satellite, but hopefully they got a better place this time around, as I don't want a repeat of... that.
