LOVEREC - Incredible ending! Hitomi was absolutely adorable!

LOVEREC is a romance/mystery visual novel developed by ALcot and released in 2015. It also received a mini fandisk one year after the conclusion of the story, showing what the heroines have been doing with their lives since the ending. The game itself is of average size, and I completed it in 28 hours.

The story follows Yanase Akira, a high school student and video camera enthusiast who tries to record almost everything that happens in his life. After a clash with the existing Film Research Club, he decides to establish his own Videography Club with his childhood friend, Yoshinaga Chiho, to pursue his dream of "making people happy through videography".

Chiho is a great cheerleader, well at least she can wear the outfit, not sure the ability.

While he is searching for enough members to form the club, a mysterious girl appears out of thin air, claiming to be his "camera spirit" and promising to do her best to protect him. Under the name Yanase Hitomi, she begins living in his home and collaborating with him on club activities.

Together with a girl named Mikuriya Nori, they challenge the leader of the original club, Shirosawa Miyuki, to a competition to see who can produce the best video for the upcoming school fair. If they manage to defeat her, their group will be recognized as an official club by the school.

Hitomi is the central focus of most of the comedy scenes and her voice is absolutely adorable in each and every one of them. I have like 20 videos in my folder and they're almost all her. View video page

The game initially seems to focus entirely on these activities, nearly forgetting about the magical elements provided by Hitomi, aside from one or two scenes at pivotal moments when something special is needed to save the day from an impending crisis.

This means that the routes for the three main heroines (Chiho, Miyuki, and Nori) are focused on romance and more mundane issues, such as parent-child relationships (Chiho/Nori), the competition between the two clubs, and the resulting internal strife (Miyuki).

Nori is more on the technical side of things when it comes to video making.

Classic wet shirt scene for Chiho. I feel like I took a lot more screenshots of her compared to other characters.

This focus exists because the developers prepared a surprise: the series features a True Ending. They ensured that all routes converge toward it to provide a satisfying final conclusion for the entire story. I won't say more to avoid spoilers, but I can assure you that all the heroines find happiness at the same time in it.

The heroines of this story are:

Yanase Hitomi: The main heroine and the self-proclaimed spirit of Akira’s camera. She is a small girl with a hyperactive personality and an extremely cute voice (see the attached video for an example). She seems to be hiding something from Akira from the very beginning.

The super deformed CGs were among the cutest I've ever seen in a game. Like this one.

Miyuki has also a more gentle side aside from the face she puts with other people.

Yoshinaga Chiho: Akira’s childhood friend, who is always helping him while also teasing him. She is good at cooking and is generally the most "marriageable" of the heroines. Her story focuses entirely on her relationship with her mother, who is a famous actress.

Shirosawa Miyuki: The president of the Film Research Club. She is partially the reason Akira left the club due to her high standards and strict guidelines. She has been in love with him since the beginning, and her story is all about finding a middle ground between her expectations and reality.

Like mother like daughter. Chiho and her mother Chigusa together.

Honestly Chiho's route with the clash with her mother was one of the best moment aside from the true ending.

Mikuriya Nori: The younger sister of Akira’s best friend. She is a shy, silent girl who is an expert at video editing. While she is short, she is otherwise quite mature-looking. Her story focuses on the troubled relationship she has with her parents because of her passion.

My favorite heroine is definitely Miyuki because her personal route shows the most growth among the cast. She slowly learns how to interact better with other people while still pursuing her dreams. In terms of looks, however, I still think Nori is the most beautiful of the heroines.

Swimsuit, she does look good and she fully knows about it.

I highly recommend LOVEREC if you are looking for a light read with an interesting narrative that allows you to speculate about the truth behind the mystery, culminating in a great True Ending where everyone gets their happy ending.
