Make Heroine ga Oosugiru - This caught me by surprise. Chika is so adorable!

Make Heroine ga Oosugiru! is a light novel series written by Amamori Takibi and illustrated by Imigimuru that started in 2021. It currently has eight main volumes and two side story volumes and is still ongoing. I started reading this years ago before the anime was announced, and I have currently read the first five volumes.

The story follows a plain high school student named Kazuhiko Nukumizu, who finds himself in the middle of the most cliché manga scene imaginable while sitting at a café. The protagonist's childhood friend tells him to go and catch the main heroine before she leaves the country.

The childhood friend is Anna Yanami, and she is the "losing heroine" of their story. After the childhood friend leaves, she immediately goes to sulk and forces Nukumizu (a complete stranger to her) to listen to her grievances. Thus begins the story of Nukumizu's interactions with various "losing heroines" whom he somehow manages to attract one way or another.

Chika being small is probably part of the reason why she tries to act tough to others. To try and appear strong and not vulnerable.

As you can see, the premise immediately grabs your attention, and the execution is flawless as you go through many typical scenarios that you probably remember from various other series you might have read. All the "losing heroines" are well-defined and extremely attractive in their own way, to the point that it makes you think, "What are you doing, protagonist?!"

There is an overarching romance plot in the series matching the girls with Nukumizu, even if I don't think it will go anywhere, considering Anna's presence is overwhelming. To be honest, there is no way they are matching him with anyone other than her.

When it comes to style, there's no one who can match Anna, but I still feel Chika's cuteness is underrated.

The heroines I have gotten to know so far are:

Anna Yanami, the main heroine (I know it's a contradiction) of the story. She is the first losing heroine and is present in pretty much all the other chapters as a supporting character. She loves to eat a lot and looks gorgeous, to the point that you wonder why the protagonist didn't choose her in the first place. She seems to be slowly developing feelings for Nukumizu, but nothing is definitive yet.

Chika Komari, a shy member of the literature club, had a lasting crush on the former president of the literature club, but she never managed to express her feelings. She has a small figure and is generally aggressive toward Nukumizu, but she is actually a sweet girl at home with her siblings.

Lemon Yakishio, a track and field club member, is a completely oblivious girl who often does not realize that what she is doing is embarrassing. This often makes Nukumizu scramble to avert his eyes. She is also one of the early losing heroines, another cursed childhood friend.

I quite like when I see these pictures of heroine right after waking up. It gives a sense of normalcy. Look at Chika here!

Tiara Basori, a supporting character and vice president of the student council. She starts out antagonistic toward Nukumizu, but over time she begins to develop feelings for him. I quite like how her personality developed and changed over the volumes, and I am curious if she will become more important later on.

Yumeko Shikiya, a flashy-looking gal who works as the secretary of the student council. Her first impression may make her look intimidating, but she is actually quite chill. She is another supporting character who interacts with Nukumizu a lot, but she isn't in the "main heroine" bucket yet.

Kaju Nukumizu, little sister of protagonist. She's not really an heroine per se, but she's an extremely entertaining supporting character. She even run a few actual interviews of the other heroines trying to find who is the best one for her brother to date.

As I said before, Anna has the looks from her side. It's undeniable that she's the most beautiful overall by global standards.

My favorite is definitely Chika because of her story arc showing that glowing, amazing smile (see attached picture), but I have been interested in Yumeko a lot because of her incredible looks in the light novel. I saw the design in the anime, and somehow the impact feels diminished compared to the light novel.

I really recommend giving this series a try, be it the light novel or the anime (which is scheduled to get a second season in the near future). I am going to continue reading in the coming weeks, and I will be back with my usual posts about the individual volumes with more details and spoilers.
