SHY Vol 26,27 - Captured? Time for Iko to go save her partner!
Volumes 26 and 27 of SHY continue from where we left off, with Teru trapped in a virtual reality created by her grandfather in an attempt to shield her from the problems she is facing. Meanwhile, the other heroes are fighting the remnants of Amarariruku while Stigma prepares to unveil his grand plan.
Most of these volumes were dedicated to Shine's past in her home country as she tries to learn who killed her mother. There, she becomes involved in a war where people are trying to use hero energy to create a super bomb as a warfare tactic. It is essentially a nuclear missile, only powered by hero energy instead of traditional fuel.

The story hasn't yet gone into detail about exactly how she became Stigma in the first place, but hints are scattered throughout. One important clue was provided by Teru's grandfather, who mentioned that the coffin used to bury Shine did not contain her body at all. I expect we will discover what happened in the coming volumes.
What we do know is that Stigma planned to summon an army of fake heroes and release them into the world. These heroes look exactly like the originals, including their abilities, and they are extremely difficult to kill. Think of them as an army of intelligent zombies. They are causing easy havoc across the countries because people can no longer trust their heroes.

So far, the team has only managed to kill one of these fake heroes, Fake Haltia, and imprison another, Fake Pepesha. I liked how Pepesha gained a new power linked to her mother's Amarariruku form, and I wonder if this will be a theme for all the heroes as they fight their fake counterparts.
The 27th volume ends with a harsh cliffhanger where Sekilala Lovesong, also known as Aika Kirahoshi, betrays Iko and Teru. She nearly kills the former in a scene that was genuinely scary because of the amount of blood, and then she kidnaps the latter to deliver her to Stigma for unknown purposes. I wonder if she has truly returned to being an enemy.

Regarding Iko, it has been nearly a year since I read a volume of SHY. While she already left a strong impression on me, she has only improved in this arc. She is adamant about not being a bystander when it comes to Teru and has even joined forces with her "ring" self to rescue Teru from captivity. I guess I have to put on my yuri goggles again.
Judging from the short preview and the final scenes, it looks like the next volume will focus on Iko hunting the fake heroes with her newfound power while searching for Teru. Meanwhile, Teru is being tortured by Stigma in an attempt to make her fall into darkness just like him.

There are only six volumes left, and I am really excited to see what twists the finale will deliver. I expect a major tragedy, given the typical backstories in this manga, but I am very curious to find out what happened to Shine to transform her into Stigma.
