SHY Vol 32,33 - Ending! Honestly this went way better than I expected! Sekilala!
Volumes 32 and 33 of SHY complete the final stages of the story, delivering a quick succession of twists alongside emotional and action-packed scenes before concluding with a rather unexpected happy ending for most of the cast. It was quite a ride that I had to do in one sitting!
The first twist is that the real final battle the heroes face is not against Stigma, but against Kekerakera Kufufu. She serves as the final obstacle by forcing the moon onto a collision course with Earth. Her personal story ends with a classic tragedy, though the impact was somewhat diluted for me because I read the final volume immediately after.

There are many other interesting scenes featuring the various heroes and the students from Teru's school working together to thwart Stigma's final plan on Earth. It was a great moment to see so many familiar and less familiar faces return. Honestly there were a few scenes where I went "wait, who were you again?", but it's expected with so many characters.
The happy ending is brought about by Shine awakening with even more energy and fully resurrecting the entire Amarariruku cast. They are resurrected as humans, allowing them to live normal lives. While it was a bit cheesy, I liked it because I had grown quite attached to Sekilala, Kufufu, and the others.

Of course, there is a sad note as well. Shine cannot return to Earth because the massive amount of energy she accumulated separates her from Teru. She uses her power to stop the moon and then disappears from Teru's life. I suppose it would have been a bit too much if the author had resurrected her as well, though I feel it might have been a better outcome overall.
Teru returning to Earth after a few months and reuniting with Iko, who had been longing to see her, was a great moment. However, they did not deliver the final kiss I was expecting, which was disappointing. I suppose I will have to daydream about it instead because they truly act like the perfect couple.

Looking back at the series as a whole, SHY has had a great run despite its various high and low points. I loved almost every scene involving Teru and her normal school life. I was not as fond of the early flashback segments focused on Shine's journey, as I found them quite boring. The later ones were better, but they still felt like a low point compared to the chapters centered on Teru.
I am generally not a huge fan of superheroes or similar themes, but SHY managed to blend them well with school-life content and kept my attention for 33 volumes, which is quite a feat. I still feel the tragic elements were a bit too central at times, occasionally making the reading experience feel heavy.

Overall, SHY has been an amazing ride. I am curious to see if the author is working on any other titles. Since the last volume was only released in January 2026, it will likely take some time before anything new appears, but I will keep an eye on the Bookwalker page.
