Yancha Gyaru no Anjou-san Vol 01,02 - Anna is just way too amazing!
The story focuses mostly on the two interacting with each other and growing closer as time goes on. What started as mere interest from Anna slowly becomes a much closer relationship, to the point that I'm honestly baffled how the protagonist still thinks she's just "teasing."
Anna is the daughter of a hair salon owner (her mother), and there is one particular scene where she adjusts his hair in a cooler style. She realizes that he looks good and immediately tells him to change it back to the way it was, thinking that it would only create rivals for her. Can she be more obvious?!
The series is light on serious moments, preferring a comedic approach with plenty of fanservice involving the main heroine as she continues her advances toward Seto. There was, however, quite an emotional moment when Anna's cat, Masamune, died of old age. It's the first time we see Anna crying in an emotional moment.
Aside from the main couple, we have a few other characters, but so far they haven't gotten enough screen time for us to judge them properly, as the focus has been mostly on the main leads. On Anna's side, we have Toyoda and Chita, both of whom are very close to her, but with very different personalities.
Toyoda is a cool beauty with long black hair who seems cold, but is actually ultra-interested in cute things like mascot characters and seems to be amused by watching Seto and Anna interact. Chita is Anna's other friend, a short-haired girl with a huge appetite who is usually jealous of Anna's attention toward Seto.
As for other minor characters, we have Inuyama, Seto's best friend. He's the typical stupid friend always talking about girls, usually in vulgar ways, and Komaki, who is the school nurse, acting as the adult who often gives advice to the other characters about how to behave.
I'm a bit worried about it because 17 volumes focusing mostly on two characters is not easy, as you'll eventually start to run out of situations to put them in. I guess they could expand more on the side characters, but I'm not sure it would have the same impact.
Either way, I'm going to keep reading this and make posts on the blog every 2-ish volumes like I usually do with the series I'm reading. I'm really curious where the story goes between the two. Will Seto manage to grow a spine, or will he stay the same for the entire rest of the series?
