Fate/Strange Fake Ep.03 - The real Grail War starts now! Who was that last one?

January 17, 2026 · 3:53 PM

The third episode of Fate/strange Fake continues from where we left off last week, with the Dead Apostle Jester Karture facing off in battle against the executor of the Church, Hansa Cervantes, who also works as the "moderator" for the Grail War. The battle was on a completely different level compared to what we have seen before with the humans powered by fake Noble Phantasms, regarding both animation quality and impact on the environment.

It seems like Hansa has had his body partially replaced by powerful prosthetics that allow him to easily keep up with the abnormal strength of the Dead Apostles. However, by his own admission, he is a far cry from the Burial Agency inquisitors (like Ciel from Tsukihime).

Ok this was absolutely the cutest thing we've got so far in this series.

Jester ends up escaping because, well, it is too early to eliminate anyone from this Grail War. We also see a glimpse of Caster preparing new weapons for the police members so they can fight more effectively. I am not sure how impactful they will be, though, because the limitations of the human body are still the same, as seen by how surprised they were by Hansa's attacks. But who knows? We do not know the real potential of Caster yet, so he may have an ace in his pocket to use.

On an unrelated note, I have to say that Tiné Chelc (Master of Gilgamesh) is extremely cute. The scene with her imagining parachuting out of the building was absolutely adorable. She is the only "normal girl" in the series so far, considering that Ayaka has that creepy shadow following her at all times. Gilgamesh himself seems to have taken an interest in her growth, and I am curious to see how she will be changed by the many battles ahead.

That was quite a direct way to attack Gilgamesh. Is he going to be deflect the attack or cause the building the fall down completely? View video page

By the way, El-Melloi II (Waver Velvet) immediately notices that something is off with the whole Grail War because it seems like the system has not finished summoning all the Servants required. He speculates that the first REAL Servant summoned is Saber, and all the others have been summoned by the "fake Grail War" that is missing a Saber. That means we are going to get a total of 7+6=13 Servants in total for an incredible battle royale.

This is also proven by the attack on Gilgamesh by a mysterious "Archer-class" Servant at the end of the episode. Of course, I say "Archer-class" because he was using a bow, but knowing the Fate franchise, he could be pretty much any of the main seven Classes or even an abnormality like Avenger or Ruler.

Also, who is that final Servant summoned who talks to his Master through a piece of paper? Does he not have a physical body, or is he hiding it for the time being, even from his own Master? As it stands, we should have 8 Servants summoned, but many of them are completely weird compared to the typical Grail War (like Berserker).

Now we are back to waiting for one week until we get to know more about the new Servants that have been summoned. Looking forward to it!
