Fate/Strange Fake Ep.02 - Hansa, that was actually quite cool. Poor Assassin...January 10, 2026 ยท 3:51 PM

Second episode of Fate/strange Fake (which apparently originally aired long ago, but somehow I missed) delivered another series of introductions and an interesting battle to start off the grail war. I'm quite liking the anime so far and I feel this is going to become a classic when it comes to Fate franchise related series.

The story continues from where we left it last week with Saber and Ayaka getting arrested by the police after destroying the roof of the opera house. Saber doesn't seem much concerned with the situation and that's understandable considering he could easily escape or neutralize the police if he wanted to.

At the same time he seems to be very worried about Ayaka who is seemingly still confused about her current situation. Even the police doesn't seem to think she's an actual magus, but then how did she end up becoming a master? Also who sent her to Snowfield considering she has no memories about it?

I'm also puzzled about that extremely creepy shadow that appears near her at times, Ayaka seems to be aware of it so it's not part of the memories she lost. Is it some kind of familiar that was put on her by whoever manipulated into coming to the city, or is it something else innate to her?

The battle between the police force using special noble phantasm crafted by Caster and Assassin was quite interesting. While I can see the power of having multiple people being able to use noble phantasms, I'm not sure Assassin was taking them seriously to be honest. She only seemed to get more focused when her master appeared and revealed to be a vampire.

Ahahaha, this scene was downright hilarious. Hansa really gained my support for it. View video page

I wonder how does this whole multiple noble phantasms thing exactly works. Considering that Caster seems to be fine hiding instead of coming to the front to fight I can guess he's not a fighter type and maybe his powers are related to creation, but can he create basically unlimited Noble Phantasms? Wouldn't that easily make an army nearly unstoppable?

Animation has been pretty consistent in quality and while some of the decisions on how to animate the battles aren't exactly stellar (I'm not a fan of the way the borders of the characters are drawn), I still feel they're doing a great job so far and I'm looking forward to see the even more crazy battles later in the series.

Now next week we're going to see the first real battle between Hansa Cervantes (Executor of the Church) and Jester Karture (Vampire and Dead Apostle). Jester was talking about "affinity" when fighting against the policeman, let's see how he fares against someone whose entire training is all about killing abominations like him.
