Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai Ep.07 - Mystery deepens. Nana is weak? Compared to Kaya at least...
Episode 7 of Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai (カヤちゃんはコワくない) continues to deepen the mystery surrounding the Ebisumori family, Kaya’s maternal relatives. They are clearly a family well-versed in the supernatural and capable of handling it to a certain degree, as demonstrated by Nana when she faced the monster at the door.
The issue is that Nana’s power, which relies on sealing items, feels clumsy compared to what Kaya can accomplish with ease using a single punch. Is it pure coincidence that Kaya was born this way, or is it the result of something that happened to her mother instead? I am starting to feel that there is more to their past than simply a family legacy of fighting the occult.

A picture found among Mirai’s belongings portrays Nana, Mirai (who looks almost identical to Kaya), and another woman, perhaps a younger Mutsu. In this photo, Nana’s face is scribbled over in pen. Does this indicate resentment for something that happened in the past?
Nana compared the photo to Kaya, exclaiming, "Kaya, you are...", but she stopped before revealing more. The anime is quite effective at maintaining tension without revealing too many details at once. It is a bit frustrating to wait an entire week for more information, but I suppose that is part of the fun.
We also received more information about Mirai’s pregnancy. It seems there is a risk of complications, and she is forced to stay at the hospital for additional checks. She mentioned that when she was pregnant with Kaya, she was so anxious she could not sleep. I wonder if I am being paranoid to think that something supernatural was happening back then as well.
The episode ends with a stressed Chie calling Osamu to tell him that the Ebisumori family found out about their excursion to Mutsu’s place. Instead of Osamu, his mysterious mentor answers the call, complaining that he warned Osamu not to delve too deeply into that family’s past.

What happened to Osamu? Is it time for this mysterious mentor to take center stage? Now that Nana has turned out to be less powerful than expected, he is the only one who might be comparable to Kaya in terms of power, as seen in the opening animation, and perhaps the only one who can truly help her.
