Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai Ep.08 - Namu introduced! What happened to Kaya?

Episode 8 of Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai (Kaya-chan isn't Scary) finally introduces the final character of the main cast, Namu. He is the teacher of Osamu and is apparently one of the most powerful psychics in the country. He appears to be snooping around Kaya to gather more information about her.

We do not know the details regarding his powers or motives yet, but I saw the name "Ebisumori Namu" in some online promotional content a while ago. This name directly links him to Mirai's family and, by extension, to Kaya as well. Given the age difference, he cannot be a direct child of Nana or Mirai, so I suspect he might be an uncle, brother, or cousin.

He referred to Kaya as the eighth shrine maiden and stated that all the eldest members of the Ebisumori family are fated to obtain incredibly strong supernatural powers. This is despite the fact that Kaya is considered absurdly overpowered even by his standards. This makes the Ebisumori family even more suspicious of having performed some strange ritual to cause this phenomenon over multiple generations.

Did they summon a god or something similar? Two weeks ago, I pointed out that the name Ebisumori literally translates to "Forest of Ebisu", with Ebisu being one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology. Is the fact that Kaya is the eighth shrine maiden just a coincidence, or are the two things connected?

Chie almost destroyed Namu here. I mean yes, he's technically homeless, without a stable job and a weird person, but there's a reason for it! View video page

Namu labels Kaya a monster, causing Chie to fight back to protect her student, but I wonder if he was also referring to himself in that discussion. His level of power is much higher than Nana's, even if he is likely weaker than Kaya. Because of this power, he has been forced to live without a stable residence. Perhaps he considers himself a monster as well.

I wonder if this is why there are so many paranormal events happening at Kaya's preschool. While I eventually suspended my disbelief and ignored the frequency of these events, having so many dangerous things occur at once seems like more than a simple coincidence.

This was absolutely cute when Kaya removed the hood to surprise Chie.

The volume ends with Kaya almost being abducted by a criminal during a festival. There was no paranormal activity this time, which meant she was unable to do much until she was saved by Namu. Now that the two have connected, what will happen next? The question of Mirai's pregnancy still hangs over the story, and nothing has really been resolved so far.
