Otoko Kirai na Bijin Shimai Vol 7 - Honestly? This is becoming just fillerDecember 10, 2025 · 7:59 PM

Today I read volume 7 of the light novel series Otoko Kirai na Bijin Shimai wo Namae wo Tsugezu ni Tasuketara ittai dounaru? (男嫌いな美人姉妹を名前も告げずに助けたら一体どうなる?) that I reviewed earlier. I have to say it: it was kind of disappointing, even knowing what I was getting into.

This volume felt like a disconnected set of various standard trope scenes thrown together just to show the sisters Arisa and Aina, or their mom Sakina, in cute or ecchi situations without any actual purpose aside from stroking the ego of the protagonist. Once in a while, this can be funny or entertaining, but when it makes up the entire length of the volume, it actually gets a bit annoying.

Family look Family look
Sakina sure is hot. Sakina sure is hot.

We went from a yukata scene with the sisters and the protagonist at a summer festival, straight to an athletic festival at school with them participating in a three-legged race. We passed through various scenes at school and home in between. Each scene by itself could easily be considered a side story because they had zero impact on the main narrative.

There was a little "development," if we can call it that. Sakina actually kissed the protagonist and declared her love for him. However, that happened while she was drunk, so I am not sure if they are really going to add the mom to the mix too. That would definitely be... unique, I guess? To be honest, I don't think the sisters would be against it; they seem to be pretty lax when it comes to family matters.

That's not how you wear a yukata! That's not how you wear a yukata!

To be completely frank, I feel that the author just wanted to continue the series further even though there isn't much left to add to their relationship. It feels like they are going through a standard stock of scenes to put the characters into, hoping it keeps selling long enough to prepare a new series. This is the issue I often mention whenever they write these "one heroine, no conflict" stories.

They run stale very quickly. The lack of conflict means the author cannot simply spice things up by adding a rival or anything of that sort, so it quickly devolves into boredom. It is a shame too, as the novel has some of the best art quality I have seen recently, and the premise wasn't bad either.

Yeah that's better as a way of wearing it! Yeah that's better as a way of wearing it!

I am not sure I want to continue reading this in the future, but I will take some time to think about it until the next volume arrives. I guess it depends on how long they manage to stretch the story. If it is just another few volumes, I may push through just to say that I "finished it".
