I just finished watching episodes 7 to 9 of Psycho Pass Season 1 and wow, the developments were abrupt and the tension keeps rising. It is great for the story, but it makes it really hard for me to stop watching and actually do other things.
The schoolgirl arc wraps up much faster than I expected. Kougami identifies the culprit almost immediately, although a few more victims unfortunately fall before that point. Rikako Oryo flees with the help of other students only to be brutally killed by a hunter-like man who is allied with the mastermind behind these crimes.

We also get more insight into Kougami’s past, and the show gives additional hints about the real mastermind, Shougo Makishima. He is revealed to be the same person responsible for the death of the inspector whose murder pushed Kougami into becoming a latent criminal according to the Sibyl System.
He is behind most of the recent crimes that the team investigated without ever actually having acted directly, just helped from outside with resources/hacking or people connections. It's remarkable that he's able to actually hack and steal information even from the police.
The argument between Nobuchika and Akane about how to handle the Enforcers and their interaction with the crime psychology expert was a highlight. It is the first time Akane truly snaps and asserts her independence, stating openly that she will do what she believes is necessary to save lives.
Nobuchika’s concerns came from a good place especially considering his childhood and how the latent criminal system affected his life, but Akane is an adult now and it is good to see her take initiative instead of simply following the system without question.
Of course, the fear everyone has toward the Sibyl System is understandable. Being marked as a latent criminal essentially ends any chance at a normal life (or any life at all depending on the level).
Now the story is moving into a new arc focused on Toyohisa Senguji, a full-body cyborg (only the brain is still human) who enjoys hunting. Makishima assigns him the task of eliminating Kougami, who has become the biggest obstacle in the investigation so far.
I am very curious to see how long the Makishima plotline continues. Will it be resolved within the first season or stretch across the entire series? I hope it wraps up in this season. It might get stale if the story relies on a single antagonist for too long
