Sekai Saikyou no Majo, Hajimemashita Ep.02 - Elimina Manaflame is so much fun!

Episode 2 of Sekai Saikyou no Majo, Hajimemashita continues from where we left off, with Rona about to leave the forest to begin her adventure alongside her unique Internet skill and an overpowered staff that already makes her a powerhouse on the world stage.

The first half was entirely centered around a single gag. To be fair, I laughed initially because it's essentially the classic "arrow to the knee" joke turned into a full scene, but it dragged on for so long that it started feeling stale, especially after Rona left. It should have been resolved more swiftly to keep the humor intact.

Now this could be misunderstood, but Elimina isn't bleeding, that's wine even though the looks makes her look a bit like near death.

I love Elimina's personality, she's the perfect type of girl to create comedy. Of course it isn't nice for her, but alas...

The second half introduces a new character, almost certainly a recurring one, named Manaflame Elimina: a proud girl willing to do anything to rise through the ranks, whose current job at the adventurer guild is making sure as few aspirants as possible pass the adventurer exam.

Her ability allows her to see anyone's mana capacity simply by looking at them with her heterochromatic eyes (one eye turns red when active). The result? She takes one look at Rona and immediately assumes she's the second coming of the Demon King, convinced that angering her would result in mass slaughter.

Just look at Elimina go "don't make her aggro onto me". I can't stop laughing at this girl! View video page

This was the most hilarious part of the episode, with Rona's innocent reactions constantly misinterpreted by Elimina, who bends over backward with appeasing gestures just to stay on Rona's good side. It's a simple dynamic, but I really love misunderstanding-based comedy in general. It reminded me a lot of the Muyoku na Seijo light novel I read a while back.

In the next episode, Rona will be tackling her first dungeon; how many seconds will it take before she completely trivializes it? Her power is on a completely different level right now, so the craziness will definitely continue for a while. I'm not entirely sure where they want to go with her character progression, though. Is the entire show just going to be her coasting through cute and funny moments?

The series seems to be centering all around cuteness so fanservice is pretty much non-existant. Not a bad thing if done well really...

Of course Rona is a cute girl, and with cute girls comes the sweets. Plus internet makes it easy for her to see the good stuff!

I took a quick look at the characters who will be introduced in the near future, and they are mostly girls. Are they going to form an adventuring party with Rona? It would be nice to have a supporting cast that is less overpowered and more grounded to rein Rona in, similar to the dynamic between Mile and Pauline, Reina, and Mavis in Noukin.
