Tai-Ari deshita. Ojousama wa Kakutou Game nante Shinai Ep.09 - Yuu is so bright!
Episode 9 of Tai-Ari deshita: Ojousama wa Kakutou Game nante Shinai continues with a Yuu-centered episode, where she fights against Arisa in a match that honestly turned out better than I expected. Sure, Yuu lost, but that was sort of a given considering she was never supposed to be a hardcore player.
The interesting part was when they stopped explaining special terms and started making her eyes shine as if she was obtaining some supernatural power (reflexes). Sure, it's cheesy, but it reminded me of the super skills that the girls from the old Saki manga/anime used during their matches.

Arisa continues to be an unlikable character, but I wonder if there's a way to redeem her in the future. There has to be a reason why she's like that, certainly connected to that flashback, but probably also to her sister, who is the student council president at Mio and the others' school.
The surprising part comes with Aya also losing her match against Gekido; it was a close one, and I'm sure she's frustrated about it. The real question now hangs on Mio; in fact, Aya ran straight over to her to find out what was going on. Her advancing is pretty much a requirement, because otherwise there wouldn't be a match moving forward.
Tamaki was sorely absent from this episode, which is also interesting because she was the one I assumed would've been defeated first. It would be surprising if Tamaki is actually the one who manages to survive the longest in the tournament. I guess they wanted to hold her back for next week to console Yuu?
Overall, I'm loving the series, but I honestly find it hard to follow the various technical explanations about the fighting game itself. Sure, they're understandable on the surface, but I'm sure it would've been a whole different experience if I actually played them.

The next episode will conclude Mio's match and likely Tamaki's situation. Timeline-wise, we only have a few episodes left, so things have to wrap up quickly to allow enough screen time for the later parts of the tournament. Well, either that or make this a two-cour series...
