Today I completed Yuushe’s route in the visual novel Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou (月に寄りそう乙女の作法), which we discussed in a previous post. If you remember, I was not particularly impressed with Minato’s route and the focus on events that happened outside of the academy within Minato's family, but this one was a significant step up.
The focus this time is less on family troubles and more on the competitive nature of Yuushe wanting to become a designer who can match Luna. Yuushe is different from Luna in that she is not naturally talented at design. Instead, she relies on trial, error, and a great deal of effort. She often spend the night doing more to try and catch up which is how she ended up connecting to Asahi in this route.
Sasha, Yuushe’s maid who is actually crossdressing, noticed that Asahi was a boy from the very beginning. However, he stayed silent, assuming Asahi was in a situation similar to his own. Yuushe, on the other hand, was completely oblivious. She went into a total panic when she was finally told the truth, as you can see from the attached video.
After learning Asahi’s secret, the two begin to grow closer. Although they are not initially a couple, they start a collaboration to create work together. This makes Yuushe happy, but it also makes her more vulnerable to the fear of failing against Luna, as a loss would now mean they both failed together.
They are eventually discovered dating by the always-tsundere Luna, who still thinks they are both girls. Paradoxically, this discovery gives Yuushe the boost of confidence she needs to fight against her again. The two really are close friends, but neither is honest enough to face the other normally, so they always resort to these types of interactions. Interestingly, it turns out that Luna was the one who gave Yuushe all the incorrect Japanese language information, causing Yuushe to use phrases like desuwa and desuno.
Just as Yuushe was regaining her self-confidence, Asahi’s older brother, Aeon, discovers Asahi’s true identity. He implements a rule to ensure Yuushe cannot participate in the upcoming contest. Asahi manages to convince him to let her participate by making a deal: if they fail, Asahi will return to England. In the event of a victory, Aeon will ensure Asahi can complete all three years at the school and will silence anyone who opposes or discovers the secret.
Another interesting revelation was that Sasha is a childhood friend of Jean-Pierre Stanley and has been involved with him since the beginning. Apparently, Sasha was in love with him, and Aeon told him to go away to let Stanley focus more on design, which is how he ended up becoming Yuushe’s "maid". Sasha and Aeon are complete opposites. Aeon views love as a waste of time and money, while Sasha believes love is a powerful conduit for doing better work.
In the end, Yuushe wins the contest, thanks in part to the flower Asahi prepared. She even gains Aeon’s approval, to the point that he gives her his own vote. This marks the happy ending, as Asahi is allowed to stay in school for the remaining three years to graduate while dating Yuushe.
Aeon is a strange character. There are times when you want to punch him and other times when he seems quite reasonable. I understand that he is focused solely on results, but I feel there must be more to his backstory, especially regarding why he hates Asahi and his mother so much.
Sasha was also a great asset in this route. He was always attentive to what was happening and ready to help whenever the pair was in trouble, even carefully stepping away when they needed intimacy. I did not expect to like this character so much, and he was definitely one of the highlights of the route.
Next, I am going to play Mizuho’s route. I am not exactly sure what to expect there, as she was the character least involved in the story compared to the others. We will talk more once I have finished it.
