Ayakashi Triangle - Suzu is just way too cute. Lucy's obsession with aliens!
Ayakashi Triangle (あやかしトライアングル) is a fantasy ecchi romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki, also known for the very popular To Love Ru. The series is complete with 16 volumes released between 2020 and 2023 (I have read 14 so far) and received an anime adaptation as well.
The story is set in the fictional city of Omiko, following the lives of Matsuri Kazamaki and Suzu Kanade as they get involved with various ayakashi (spirits that normal people cannot see). Matsuri is a descendant of a line of exorcist ninjas, while Suzu is an Ayakashi Medium who attracts ayakashi around her.
The story begins when Suzu is attacked by Shirogane, the King of Ayakashi. Matsuri comes to help but is unable to completely defeat the powerful ayakashi and decides to seal most of his powers within a scroll instead. Before getting sealed, Shirogane manages to cast a curse on Matsuri, turning him into a girl to ruin any chance for them to become a couple.
The premise starts here, with Matsuri trying to adapt to his new life as a girl while also searching for ways to reverse the curse and return to his normal self so he can declare his love for Suzu. As the story progresses, we get to see more details about the ayakashi world and Suzu's involvement with it.
The main characters are:
Matsuri Kazamaki
The main male protagonist of the series. He is a young exorcist ninja training to become the new head of the clan. He becomes a girl right at the beginning of the series, making him struggle to fit into his new life. Suzu helps him, and slowly he starts to befriend Suzu's friends, Yayo and Lucy. He was planning to confess to Suzu and is deeply in love with her.
Suzu Kanade
The main female protagonist of the series. Suzu often puts up a front of being a serious and responsible girl, but she is actually extremely perverted and gets often reprimanded by the now-shrunk Shirogane. She has strong spiritual energy, which causes her to attract lots of ayakashi that end up creating trouble in her life. She is in love with Matsuri.
Shirogane
The King of Ayakashi. His normal form is that of a gigantic feline, but due to the power sealing, he now inhabits the body of an overweight cat. His plan was, and still is, to devour Suzu to get more power. He currently lives with Suzu and acts mostly as a supporting character.
Yayoi Toba
Often nicknamed Yayo, she is a classmate and close friend of Suzu. She is energetic and a great student at Hokusai High School. She is also often seen harassing and touching Suzu's body in the typical comedic and fanservice way that you can expect from this kind of series.
Lucy Tsukioka
Often nicknamed Lu, she is a classmate and close friend of Suzu. She is obsessed with supernatural events and aliens and wants to meet them, which makes her confuse the ayakashi's real origin. She is often seen taking pictures and posting them online.
Soga Ninokuru
An exorcist ninja from the Ninokuru clan. He met Matsuri on a mission long before the beginning of the series and developed a rivalry with him. He is normally a serious and cold person, but he gets completely embarrassed when interacting with women. This causes him much trouble in facing his longtime rival now that Matsuri is a girl.
It is hard to choose favorites in this series because pretty much everyone is a great character. However, if I had to choose one, it would be Suzu because it is just way too cute to see her inner pervert appearing from time to time whenever Matsuri is involved. Plus, she is outright stunning in terms of beauty!
Ayakashi Triangle is a great series that I recommend to everyone who likes this kind of ecchi romantic comedy. I will probably make one more post once I read the final two volumes and complete the series myself.
