Isekai Ojisan (異世界おじさん) is a fantasy comedy manga series written and illustrated by Hotondoshindeiru. It started serializing in 2018 and is currently ongoing with 14 volumes released as of today. I have already read 12 of them and I plan on catching up on the content soon.

The story follows the life of Yousuke Shibazaki (called by everyone Ojisan) after he wakes up from a 17-year-old coma caused by a traffic accident. Takafumi Takaoka (his nephew) goes to visit him and learns that Ojisan was actually sent to another world by the impact and has learned the usage of magic there.

They decide to start living together for a while to help him adjust to modern society and also because Takafumi is very curious about his adventures in the other world, which Ojisan doesn't mind sharing. Ojisan is a really strong Sega fan, and the fact that they ended up stopping console production during his coma is a continuous motive for comedy.

The story is divided into two segments. One is the Isekai part, where Ojisan narrates and shows the comedic and tragic events of his adventure in the other world using his magic. The other is the normal life part, showing him adjusting to the new world reality (becoming a youtuber even) alongside his nephew.

In the Isekai, Ojisan's objective is to try and get back to Earth. So, with his gamer mindset, he starts trying different and progressively more dangerous things to see if he can open a gate between the two worlds. Apparently, there were other people who arrived from Earth in this world long ago, and they even left descendants there.

In the present world, the characters are:

Yousuke Shibazaki / Ojisan

The titular protagonist of the series. He is an extremely pessimistic person, partly caused by the fact that his unattractive appearance was the source of much trouble in the Isekai. Almost everyone there was beautiful by Earth standards, causing him to be often mistaken for an orc. He is also mostly oblivious to romantic approaches by the girls, which is one of the sources of much comedy.

Takafumi Takaoka

Yousuke's nephew, who took him in after being interested by the magic and the adventures his uncle had in the other world. He is often turned off by Ojisan's inability to realize romantic affection from the Isekai girls, but he is himself completely oblivious to the approaches of Sumika.

Sumika Fujimiya

Takafumi's childhood friend. She has a crush on him, but all her approaches so far have been completely useless to make him aware. She starts spending lots of time at Takafumi's apartment to learn more about Ojisan's adventures and also to try and get closer to Takafumi.

In the Isekai world (aside from Ojisan), the characters are:

Tsundere Elf

A blonde elf who was saved by Yousuke from a near-death situation and is deeply in love with him. Since the term "tsundere" only became popular years after Yousuke went into a coma, he is completely unaware of her tendencies and thinks she is just harassing him instead.

Mabel Laybelle

A blue-haired, reclusive woman who is the holder of the mythical Ice Sword capable of defeating the Flame Dragon. Unfortunately, Yousuke defeats the dragon without using the sword (thanks to his gamer attitude), causing Mabel to question her purpose. She becomes a NEET and is seen often interacting with Yousuke over his travels.

Alicia Edelsia

A rookie priestess in a party with two other adventurers. Yousuke helped them in many quests, causing their popularity to rise to the point that she is worshipped as a Crusader Hero by the country (since Yousuke didn't want any credit). She is in love with him, but of course, he is unaware of it.

Honestly, I am conflicted about which character I like the most. Tsundere Elf is definitely the most beautiful and dedicated of the main girls, but Mabel's lazy attitude and cute behavior are also nice to watch. Alicia also has enough personality to stand on her own in the journey.

I am genuinely curious to know what happened that allowed him to get back to Earth. I hope Tsundere Elf manages to get back to him, maybe crossing the world lines at the end of the series. She is so dedicated that she really deserves a happy ending.

Give this series a shot. It is a great one both for the story and for the visual quality, and I think everyone should experience it at least once.
