Ayakashi Triangle Vol 15,16 - Ending. It was a satisfying conclusion for Matsuri and Suzu
After so much time, I finally managed to read the final two volumes, 15 and 16, of the Ayakashi Triangle (あやかしトライアングル) series. It was an incredible ending for the franchise, giving everyone a chance to shine while still focusing on the main couple, Suzu and Matsuri and their love story.
As you may remember from the previous volume, Matsuri split into two versions, a male one and a female one, leaving everyone puzzled about how this happened. Mei decides to investigate and discovers that the male version is actually an ayakashi controlled by Gogyosen, the arch-villain of the series, in an attempt to kill the Ayakashi Miko, Suzu.

Gogyosen's plan is simple: ensure that Suzu gets cozy with the male Matsuri, causing her to be cursed and die. However, Suzu is conflicted because she likes both versions of Matsuri and does not want to make either jealous by favoring the other. Mei acts as a supporting character, trying to resolve the situation by indirectly revealing the secret to the others.
Eventually, this erupts into a major battle where we see the full power of Suzu in the Ayakashi Mikko form and Matsuri, leading to the final and permanent defeat of Gogyosen. It was great to see Garaku Utagawa in action as well, fighting to protect Shadow Mei from harm.

Suzu's final decision is that she simply likes both versions of Matsuri and wants to be with both of them. Matsuri, on the other hand, was taken aback by Suzu's fiercely assertive attitude in these volumes. He does not feel ready to return to being male because he knows he would be immediately overwhelmed by Suzu, so he delays the change until school is over.
Suzu is not willing to give up on either version, so she plans to learn the skill used by Shirogane to change sex at will. While they are lovers by the end, I am still worried about Matsuri given Suzu's drive when it comes to ecchi antics. Will he or she manage to survive her attention?

It was a fitting conclusion, and I liked that they did not simply delete the female Matsuri. She is the character we have come to love over the course of many volumes and ecchi encounters, appearing much more frequently than the male version, who only featured in a few scenes throughout the long series.
Overall, there's no doubt that my favorite character was Suzu. Her presence is overwhelming in the series with a great personality and she drives most of the comedy and ecchi events. Sure Matsuri is often the target of these, but the source almost always goes back to Suzu doing or thinking something.

As usual, Kentaro Yabuki delivers excellent content, and this series was another high point in his manga career. I loved Suzu as a character and am curious about what his next series will be. It has been a while since the final volume was released in 2023, so I wonder if he has something new in the works.
