Chaos Zero Nightmare - Season 2 is here. Nine looks cool! Who is that fox?
Nine has been released in Chaos Zero Nightmare, and she is quite amazing as a vanguard unit. I haven't had time to actually go through the farming elements to try her in battle, but judging from her skill set and stats, she seems to be a significant improvement over previous units like Khalipe.
The story has been pretty simple so far. Protos got separated from the other agents (Renoa was obviously panicking) and was sent to a completely separate world. He ends up jailed in a facility that serves as an arena for entertainment, and there he finds Nine, Tiphera, and Alcea trapped. Protos is also having visions of a mysterious fox lady who apparently knows him. She seems to imply she is talking to him from the future, but the details are hazy at the moment, so I am guessing it will be more important later in the story.

There, he learns the backstory of Nine. She is from a world that was corrupted by Chaos, which poisoned all the citizens. They need an antidote, but it is very costly, so they became mercenaries to pay for it. Their current mission, if completed, will allow them to get the needed doses.
As the arena descends into chaos, Protos is hurt protecting Nine and is knocked unconscious. Renoa and the others arrive at the scene, and the two groups start staring at each other in doubt. Renoa wants Protos back, while Nine doesn't trust her to actually be friendly toward him. While they are about to fight, monsters arrive and they have to put aside their differences. That is when the current story segment ends.

As an additional bonus (not linked to the story), there was a controversy about the (honestly quite hot) home screen image of Nine (attached here is the original version). During the stream, they showed a much more censored version of the art and animation, and everyone started rioting as usual to try and get them to revert it back to the hotter version.
It turns out the riots worked, and we are back to the original art. I really don't care enough for these things, but I appreciate it when they keep things uncensored. It does raise a question about the future, though. Are they really going to stay the course, or will they just censor themselves internally so we never know?

Their position is a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation because if they do censor, they lose a portion of their customers. If they don't censor, they may lose a different part of their customer base. What is the right choice? I don't think there is one; they just need to decide who their target audience is.
Now the waiting game starts again. I can't get used to waiting weeks to get more of the story, but I guess I can spend some time farming for a good card set for Nine.
