Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai Ep.02 - Admittedly Osamu was quite suspicious. Chie is strong!
Episode 2 of Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai (カヤちゃんはコワくない) actually moves quite quickly in adding new characters and expanding the universe around Kaya's powers. I certainly was not expecting this series to be one of the most interesting of this season's batch.
The story continues with two more types of supernatural events. The first one revolves around a girl named Sakuya who says she can see "evil spirits" and starts to bond with Kaya. There was an evil spirit (that only Kaya really saw), but the truth was that Sakuya just saw a corpse in a house. Fortunately Chie kept it hidden and they just never knew the truth as it would be quite traumatizing for a child.

The second event involves an evil spirit "spiriting away" children. This time around, even Kaya was in trouble because, near the end, the spirit took the form of her father and then her mother. Ultimately, Kaya is still a small child, and she was lulled into a sense of security, despite her mother's presence being impossible considering the scene from the last episode.
She gets saved by a new character called Mob Osamu, who is a rather suspicious-looking occult journalist investigating this specific case. He even had a special "anti-evil spirit" spray used to weaken the spirit enough for Kaya to snap out of her trance and one-punch it into oblivion.
The interesting part is that he said it was the "third time" he had met Kaya and that he was indebted to her for what happened in the past. He is going to spill the beans to Chie-sensei in the next episode, and I am quite interested because that means we will get a glimpse into Kaya's past.
Her mother looked quite beautiful, and I wonder what happened to her that caused the situation we saw in the last episode. Hopefully, we can see her recover by the end of the series. It would be a nice way to conclude the anime while still perhaps hinting at something even bigger to keep the story going.

Chie continues to be my favorite character of the series. She is the most reasonable adult around Kaya, and she does not shy away from risking herself to keep her students safe, as seen when she threw Osamu aside without any thought for her personal well-being. Plus, damn, she must be strong to be able to throw him; he must weigh over 100 kg for sure...
I am looking forward to next week's episode, and honestly, I am sold on this series. I am absolutely buying the manga once the anime finishes airing.
