Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoushitsu Ep.20 - Hana, so close! So close!

Episode 20 of Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoshitsu is a setup episode, preparing the battleground for the final clash between Aria and Spica. Continuing from the last episode, where Spica finally got her first gem, the two are now fighting for the diamond, which is the only way Spica can possibly catch up to Aria when it comes to total points.

Spica is at 50 points while Aria is at 90. Of course, these scores are updated at the beginning of the day, so it doesn't mean Aria will be at the same score the moment they meet. The diamond is worth 100 points, though, so barring any weird shenanigans, it should ensure Spica comes out on top.

Small Aria was already very cute, but she already had that aura of fake in her way of speaking. She's clearly hiding something, but what precisely?

We also managed to catch glimpses of other characters (Hana, Astraea, and Chiron) in this episode, showing that they're also struggling to avoid failing the year by flunking this exam. The fight against the slime monsters was nice and really showed how Chiron is improving.

There wasn't much time for Hana to shine, but I guess she doesn't need it as much because of how much time was already dedicated to her in her moments with Spica. I don't think anyone will lose, as that would make them exit the stage, and this just isn't the type of series that does that.

The entire island actually being a giant turtle wasn't something I was expecting. How do you set up a test on an island that is actually a living creature? The logistics of finding it, chasing it, setting up camp, and placing the gems feels like a lot of work for the teachers...

The next episode is titled "Spica vs. Aria" and will be the final showdown between the two. They show a few flashbacks in the preview segment, so we might get the full story from Aria's point of view as well. Will Spica manage to overcome her rival and friend for once?

Hana can be scary in the dark with her serious face, but she's probably the most girly of all heroines when you get to know her better.

There are just a few episodes remaining after that, so I guess the focus will go back to the whole Arc Turus subplot, even if I don't think they can give any ending that doesn't amount to "read the manga," considering the number of open threads. Of course, I will read the manga, I guess?
