Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoushitsu Ep.21 - What is Spica's new magic?!
Episode 21 of Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoshitsu shows the first half of the battle between Aria and Spica. Nothing is too surprising so far, with Aria being arrogant about being far too good to ever be defeated, only to lose one of her safeguards before starting to take Spica seriously.
Then things invert, with Spica being cornered and forced to use the new magic she just learned, leading to a cliffhanger scene. The interesting parts are all in between, with the flashback showing the first encounter between Aria and Spica and their argument over sewing a doll.

Spica is the classic example of a hard worker; she spent a month trying to replicate what Aria did on a whim, but she did manage to do it. Hard work is a talent in itself. Of course, Aria kept her distance, and I think this became a sort of pattern, with Aria being forced to do more so she would never allow Spica to catch up.
Again, all these scenes are from Spica's point of view, so we still don't know exactly what Aria was thinking in those moments. Was she surprised that someone was "foolish" enough to try to challenge her at something? Or was there more to it? We know for sure that she loves Spica a whole lot.
If you remember a few weeks ago, she burst into tears while drunk at the thought of Spica getting away from her. It feels like a tsundere unable to understand how to become "dere" after remaining stuck in the "tsun" phase for too long. I'm sure the "dere" side is going to be great once she changes, though.
Next week's episode is titled "Aria's Dream," and from the preview segment, it looks like Aria will again be surprised by Spica's magic and forced to use something even more extreme. We see Spica completely submerged in water, but the doll isn't activating. Is her life in real danger because she used up all her charges?

My speculation continues to be that while the two girls are fighting, a third party will sneak in and steal the diamond. That would be hilarious, and better than simply letting Spica win and become the new class leader. Spica winning the battle but losing the war would be best.
