Marriagetoxin Ep.07 - Whoa, that reveal. So there is an overarching enemy...
Episode 7 of Marriagetoxin was a bit of a side story, focused mostly on introducing an overarching villain who will likely be the focus of the final story arc of the anime adaptation. The episode featured the marriage of the Bug Clan head, Toshiki Hanamaki, to a rather cute woman, but that mostly served as a backdrop.
Then came the introduction of a hierarchy within the "Master" families, with the Gero family at the top alongside a few others. This is important because it means that not all Masters are created equal, and most likely, the ones we have fought so far were on the lower end of the spectrum.

This creates a good step up for the battles to come, which is further accentuated by the introduction of a mysterious robotic figure who powered up the minor villain appearing in this episode. He didn't seem to be targeting Gero or Toshiki specifically, but was mostly granting special powers to others to create chaos.
I still don't see where Mei comes into all of this, though; at this point, it feels weak for her to be just the "marriage advisor" for Gero. There has to be something bigger in the background to fit with the overarching madness. I'm not sure what, but that is the only thing I can think of to make Mei fit well into the narrative.
Judging from the short preview, the next episode is titled "The Hitman Hunter" and is focused on a new character who goes around exclusively killing other Masters; it seems he is now targeting an old acquaintance of Gero and future heroine, Arashiyama Kimie. Gero doesn't seem too pleased about her hugging him, so I wonder what kind of relationship the two share.
I have to say that I have been enjoying this series a lot more than I expected. In a relatively lackluster anime season, Marriagetoxin has been refreshing and fun every single episode. It's not revolutionary, of course, but it's serviceable enough to create a "need to watch."

The only gripe I have is that the series forgets the old heroines once their arcs are done. If the creators managed to fix that and keep them in a more active state, it would be even better. I'm not saying they should steal the spotlight from the new heroine, but they could still collaborate or help out. It helps to feel that they still exist, you know?
