Yuusha-kei ni Shosu Ep.02 - Why this mission in the tunnels? Must be a trap...
Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 Episode 2 continues from where we left off, with Teoritta still adamant about choosing Xylo as her knight despite having heard the reason for his sentence. She seems to trust Xylo above all else, which is strange considering it is the first time she has met him.
I was speculating that maybe Goddesses have an unconscious link between them, or she could be related to the previous Goddess who worked with Xylo in the past. However, I might just be overthinking it given the limited information we have right now about them. She does not seem to be good at hiding things either, so I would rule out acting.

In this episode, they are sent on a mission to a mine near a village that has been overrun by a Demon Lord. The objective is not to rescue civilians, but purely to block the tunnels and prevent the monsters from escaping. It is a bit too late, considering most of the population has died already.
Interestingly, they show that the Demon Lord corruption can infect even humans and transform them into monstrous entities with ease. This connects well with the Goddess corruption incident that Xylo reported in that flashback, which everyone ignored as impossible.
Xylo obviously has some doubts about why they ordered this mission now, but he does not have many clues about their real objective, aside from maybe messing with Teoritta somehow. I am sure lots of people do not want a Goddess to be linked with a Penal Hero, as it paints a bad image.
This story also introduces two new characters: Norgalle, a terrorist who claims he is the real King of the Federated Kingdom, and Tatsuya, who is the oldest Penal Hero of the unit and the one who has suffered the most mental damage from the continuous resurrections. Honestly, considering the situation with Xylo and how corrupt the entire country is, it would not surprise me if Norgalle is the real King and not just a terrorist.

Teoritta continues to be a shining beacon in an extremely dark and bleak world with her smile and actions, even if sometimes I wonder why she is so obsessed with getting praised by other people. It seems to be something that even the previous Goddess who worked with Xylo did. Is it characteristic of Goddesses as entities, or something else?
I look forward to seeing what happens next week. Clearly, Teoritta's help is going to be needed, but I wonder if Kivia will also decide to help, guided by her conscience. She seems to be the best candidate to become an ally of Xylo within normal society.
