Yuusha-kei ni Shosu Ep.04 - Wait Venetim wrote the truth? That means the nobles are...
Episode 4 of Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 continues as Xylo and the other heroes (including a regenerated Norgalle) prepare for the next suicide mission. This time around, it is all about protecting a fortress until they die (literally). It seems like the cleric from the last episode delivered on his promise to make Xylo's life hell by ensuring the orders were exactly that.
Venetim managed to secure some guarantees and materials to improve the defense of the fortress, but in the end, the heroes are on their own. The military's plan seems to be to use the power of the 9th Goddess to turn the fortress into a huge pool of poison and repeatedly kill the demon until it is completely destroyed.

My thoughts about Kivia changing I shared last week are also proving true; she now seems to view Xylo as reliable, even though she is still angry about the death of the goddess he was supposed to protect. I am sure it will clear up her remaining doubts once she knows that Xylo was not really involved with it and that it was a conspiracy from within the empire. I expect her to become more of a main heroine as time passes (she was already ultra cute in this episode).
They also dropped a random revelation (not sure if true or not) that Tatsuya was summoned to this world by a Goddess. Was he an isekai protagonist from Japan? I mean, the name kind of implies that, but I wasn't expecting a piece of information like "oh, and that guy was summoned by a goddess" to be revealed without any fanfare.
The most shocking part was in the flashback of Venetim's past. Venetim said to Xylo, "I was someone who was one step away from saving the world," and he was telling the truth. It seems he published a tabloid article back when he was working for a low-quality newspaper. In the article, he wrote something outrageous: "There are priests, nobles, and royalty working as spies FOR the Demon Lords." That is why he was sentenced to become a hero.
You might think, "Oh, just some tabloid misinformation", but the interrogator made it clear that he was sentenced because what HE SAID WAS THE TRUTH. So now things change dramatically because it means there are people within the human forces who somehow work together with the Demon Lords. Up until now, we thought the Demon Lords were completely mindless, just charging forward to destroy humanity, but if they can cooperate with humans...

The next episode will show us the battle to defend the fortress and, I guess, the defeat of the Demon Lord. Without defeating it, no one except Teoritta and Venetim will make it out alive. I am curious if we are also going to get a glimpse of what the 9th Goddess looks like, as I want to get an idea of the variety in appearance among the Goddesses.
