Zombie Sagashitemasu Ep.01 - Lighthearted and yet zombies? That's a combo...

#Zombie Sagashitemasu is a new anime series adapted from a manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Katsuwo, which concluded after only three volumes. My first thought was, "Oh, is this another one of those?" thinking back to Black Torch. It seems to be quite common nowadays to adapt series that are short and have been completed for quite a while.

The story follows the lives of a few humans on a post-apocalyptic Earth where most of the population has been killed and transformed into zombies by a mysterious disease. Aki and her friends are traveling across the desolate landscape with a specific purpose, though: Aki wants to kill her father, who has become a zombie.

Now that's a face that you'd like to see at your door. Unfortunately Aki is really just thinking about zombies here.

Natsuki is the most relatable among the characters of this series. Scared, but somehow still chugging along somehow.

The title literally translates to "I'm searching for a zombie," and it repeats the gag quite a few times after battles, with the others asking if she found her dad and her replying, "Wrong zombie." I was honestly not sure whether to try #Zombie Sagashitemasu because I'm generally not good with horror.

The main reason I gave it a shot was the cheerful cover art and lighthearted character designs. I thought, "How bad can this be?" and yeah, it's not a masterpiece, but it's not bad either. I'm not completely sure what the series wants to be, as it alternates between comedy, horror, and slice-of-life moments.

She will bury her father, one way or another. Is Aki related to Chaika somehow? Because the energy is there! View video page

The first episode serves as an introductory overview, showcasing the protagonist Aki with her amazing strength and agility, her two friends Haru (the muscle) and Natsuki (the relatively normal girl), and the final two main characters, Sakura and Yuu, who are saved by Aki on the road.

They take control of a shopping mall and plan to use it as a base. If you've seen enough zombie movies, you know that's a terrible idea because malls inevitably get overrun. I don't expect things to go completely awry here, but you never know when it comes to zombies.

Aki being scared of heights while squashing zombies like nothing is quite a gap.

I mean, I get the feeling of having many new toys, but come on, you shouldn't even know about many of these!

I'm not sure where this will lead, but it caught my attention, and I'll try to follow it in the coming weeks. Hopefully, it's good enough to warrant weekly coverage here, but all options are on the table, as I still haven't watched many of the other currently airing shows yet.
