Zombie Sagashitemasu Ep.02 - Okay maybe I talked too early... Mikazuki!

Episode 2 of #Zombie Sagashitemasu surprised me with a much darker tone, showing that the world really is post-apocalyptic and the danger is very real for our characters. I felt right from the beginning that something was off about Mikazuki during their first meeting, but I kept telling myself, "Hey, she looks okay."

The scenes seemed to reassure the viewer, showing her eating food like a normal human, joking around, and even talking about her experiences. The real shock didn't hit until much later, after she had already left, when it was revealed that she had been bitten and left for dead by her former companions.

Final fireworks, poor Mikazuki, but I guess she knew the risks of exploring the world and the danger posed by the zombies.

This was the scene that threw me off because she actually ate and I thought 'zombies don't eat". But well, turns out I was wrong.

This confirms that the zombie infection spreads pretty much the same way as in any other zombie story, which puts all the close calls the protagonists had in the previous episode into a much grimmer perspective. They were always just inches away from becoming zombies themselves.

While I don't think there's any real mortal danger for the main cast, this still casts doubt on my original interpretation of the series as a lighthearted zombie comedy. It also makes me wonder what exactly is stored inside the camera that Aki carries with her everywhere.

Mikazuki was easy to please just with some honey. Really heart breaking to see that final scene though, need something lighter to watch now... View video page

Apparently, it's something her father left behind before departing the village and disappearing, but what exactly does it contain? Notes on his research, or clues about how the world ended up in this mess in the first place? Or maybe it's just mundane childhood photos of Aki?

With all those zombies around, the world isn't going to be fixed anytime soon, and I doubt our characters are going to find a grand solution anyway. They're basically just sightseeing the decaying world, after all, not trying to cure a global crisis or repopulate the Earth.

Still impressed how huge Aki is compared to even Natsuki. Aki is supposed to be the younger of the three right?

Swimsuit is fine, but what's that shirt Natsuki, come on it's not cool considering the whole zombie deal!

Oh, and on an unrelated note, it turns out Natsuki isn't as useless as I thought. This episode showcased her archery skills, and the precision of her attacks was downright impressive; she could easily match Aki. Aki handles close range, while Natsuki covers long range!
