Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi Vol 1,2 - Asahi is so adorable, but even Yae and Yuna...

Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi is a manga series written by Naitou Marcey that also received an anime adaptation in 2024. This series genuinely slipped through my radar; I wanted to read the manga for the longest time and skipped the anime for that reason, but I never got around to it, and now here we are. The series is finished with 22 volumes, and I felt it was about time to give it a shot.

The story follows Kamihate Uryuu, who, to improve his studies, ends up living at the Amagami residence, a place away from the ruckus of the orphanage where he was raised after the death of his mother when he was a kid. Of course, things can't be easy, so the head priest of the Amagami Shrine decides that Uryuu must marry one of his three granddaughters and take over the shrine.

The clash between Uryuu's lack of belief in the gods and the three heroines, who have lived as shrine maidens for their entire lives, is central to the story and interconnects with multiple individuals and events that seem completely supernatural. Who will Uryuu choose? What will be the fate of the shrine?

Yeah, it's your run-of-the-mill harem romantic comedy, and it doesn't try to hide that. I'm genuinely curious how they're going to keep the series fresh with only three heroines, though. Will they start adding tangentially related characters who come and go from the shrine? I don't think there's any chance of any other heroine entering the circle, considering the setting.

I’ve read the first two volumes so far, and the story covers the three main heroines enough that I can distinguish them very easily. We have the mischievous Asahi, the tsundere Yuna, and the clumsy older sister Yae; honestly, all three are absolutely adorable right off the bat. Protagonist isn't bad either even if, so far, he felt just your generic caring guy.

They use most of the volume for the introduction, but also present one challenge to the protagonist: to protect the shrine, they need to get 5,000 visitors to prove that it's still financially valuable to manage it. Honestly, that's the moment where the supernatural elements started to become more and more accentuated. The man who forced this challenge, Kitashirakawa Miemon, felt like a youkai of some kind, probably fox-related, considering how his face warped whenever he plotted something.

He doesn't seem to be entirely evil, though, so I'm guessing he might be some god related to money or something. That's the typical thing you would expect from someone in that role: greed, but also a willingness to jump on any opportunity to make more money.

There is also some information given about the three sisters' mother, who apparently died recently as a result of something revolving around the shrine. The three sisters were really shocked when Miemon mentioned it, but they didn't go into much detail. I'm sure it'll be an important plot point for the supernatural angle, considering the theme.

Either way, Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi had a good start, and I'm going to make regular posts from now on until I finish it. You'll see many weird theories that will likely be disproven, as I'm doing this completely without any spoilers or information of any kind, so let's enjoy it together.
