Champignon no Majo Ep.04 - Luna had a friend in the past! Now it begins!
Episode 4 of Champignon no Majo seems to have concluded the Black Witch Council side of the story with a "let's see what happens" resolution to their dilemma regarding the cursed child. As revealed in the last episode, it turns out Luna was a cursed child herself and was saved mainly because she managed to become a witch powerful enough to fight against the curse.
Or... at least that is what the black witches believe. Technically, they have no idea about the mysterious mushroom that absorbed the curse from both Luna and the kid. Based on this false assumption, they decide (after much debate) to give Luna three years to train the kid to become a magician powerful enough to resist the curse. During this period, they will visit periodically to test the kid's progress.

They also explain that while the public thinks all black witches emanate curses, it is not true. Most black witches are actually just individuals who have a strong resistance to curses. Luna is somewhat of a unique case in their group due to her spreading mushrooms and her inability to touch any human because of her poison.
This gave Luna some breathing room to try and find a way for the kid to survive the various trials, even though I am not totally sure Luna is thinking that far ahead. Her personality shows that she lives very much in the moment without any serious planning.
It was interesting to see how the fire user was extremely against the idea of letting the kid live. I wonder what the reason is, as his behavior was completely different from everyone else in the room. Was he involved in another case of a cursed child in the past, or did he lose someone to it?
Oh, and we got a glimpse of Luna's past, showing her interacting with another witch, probably the only one she could consider a friend called the "Cat Witch". This poor witch was apparently killed in a witch hunt recently and only appeared in the meeting as a spirit to support Luna's position.

We do not really know how far back in the past those flashbacks were because Luna's appearance does not really change much over time, and we know for sure she is a lot older than she looks. However, it is interesting to see that she actually had someone she considered a friend aside from her various familiars.
I am looking forward to finally seeing the kid wake up and interact with Luna next week. What personality will he have? Childish? Serious? Or maybe rebellious?
