Champignon no Majo Ep.06 - Lizel is so well behaved. Luna is very tsundere!

Episode 6 of Champignon no Majo continues from where we left off, with the cursed child (Lizel) waking up from his deep slumber and beginning his life of cohabitation with Luna. Luna's objective is to train him to master magic to a level high enough to keep the curse under control indefinitely.

The boy apparently generates a huge amount of energy when his name is spoken (which is linked to the words someone told him in the flashback). Consequently, Luna proposes (by mistake) using another name, so for the moment, he is going to be called "Lize." This is even more feminine than his previous name, which he doesn't like, but he accepts it begrudgingly.

The witches almost look cool in this art, but the reality is that they're just a bunch of weirdos.

The face Lizel made after tasting Luna's cooking was...very relatable. Poor boy

The entire episode is narrated from Lizel's point of view, showing many of his inner thoughts regarding the various events happening around him. He has lost all memories of his past, even though he apparently still has some slight perception of certain details (for instance, he seems to know about the reputation of the Champignon Witch). He is definitely mentally older than his current physical age, but he doesn't really understand why.

There are various scenes showing the first attempts at interaction between the two. Lizel behaves like a very good kid, reading the mood and always trying to accommodate Luna whenever possible. He seems to be harsher with Claude, but that is to be expected considering how roughly Claude talks.

Luna's strict teacher persona is so flawed that it's hard for even Lizel to believe her. I mean just look at her, she's blushing! *pats Luna's head* View video page

The main issue I see is that Luna and Claude are so fixated on "keeping their distance from him" that they forget the most basic information sharing needed to make the arrangement work. For example, they got angry when he tried to touch Luna (because she is poisonous), but how was the kid supposed to know that?

Lizel seems able to use basic magic already (we saw him stir a pot with pure magic), but he still lacks control, so it often ends in disaster that Luna has to fix. Will he really be able to reach a level where he can become a full-fledged "Witch" and escape his fate?

Magical cooking with Luna! Just never touch anything or you'll end up adding mushrooms to it!

Luna trying to act seriously, but honestly doesn't work that well.

Considering how the episode ended with Lizel running away from home after secretly hearing about his possible demise, the next episode will likely be about making amends. Hopefully, Luna can also start to open her heart to him a bit more, which would make her role a lot easier.

They simply cannot keep up the "we are strict and you don't need to understand why" attitude forever, as it will just end up backfiring. The only worry is, what will happen now that he is running away from Luna's abode? Will the other Witches intervene to kill him as promised, or will he get intercepted before that happens?
