Champignon no Majo Ep.05 - Cat Witch! Wait, Lizel is a female sounding name...
Episode 5 of Champignon no Majo surprised me by actually going in-depth to explain the relationship between Luna and the Cat Witch, who appeared in the previous episode as a spirit to give her consent for Luna to train the cursed child. If you remember, in my previous post, I was skeptical that they would delve deeply into her backstory, but here we are. I am positively surprised.
Their relationship wasn't much different from what I imagined, though. The Cat Witch was a very tsundere girl who very quickly melted due to Luna's kindness and became her "house cat". Her demise was when she got involved in a situation where she had to save other Black Witches and was executed by the evil White Witches for it.

Honestly, there is literally nothing shown so far that gives even a remote indication that the White Witches are a morally gray group of people. Their higher-ups have so far been shown as ruthless, power-hungry, and ready to do whatever it takes to preserve their status. At the same time, the Black Witches seem mostly to be a comedic group of very random people.
Considering the gravity of the whole "cursed child" business, I am sure they are going to appear again as villains, and I hope they will get their comeuppance this time around. The Cat Witch was such a cute and gentle girl; she didn't deserve anything she had to endure for the sake of their lust for power.
After the Cat Witch's story, the cursed child finally wakes up. We even got a flashback scene showing someone who seemed to be his mother telling him to reveal his true name only when using his magic, and that he would be immortal unless they knew his name. I am not sure how that works considering he looked pretty "dead-ish" after being stabbed...
Oh, and they revealed his name as Lizel, and I am puzzled now. I am pretty sure that Lizel is a name mostly used for girls, but he is the "prince," right? Not the "princess." I haven't searched in detail, but I guess it was just a choice by the author to show how feminine he is?

Finally, the next episode will be the first in which Luna interacts with Lizel. She is supposed to be a stern teacher in order to make him apply himself to become a strong mage and avoid his fate of being killed. The issue is, it is hard to even imagine Luna acting seriously or strictly with someone considering what a goofball she is.
