Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai Ep.11 - Mirai's plan is unveiled. We're in the final stages!
Episode 11 of Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai (Kaya-chan isn't Scary) delivers a surprising series of revelations that prepare us for next week's finale. After nearly being killed by the curse, Nana decides to enlist everyone's help to stop Mirai from achieving her goals. Osamu, Namu, Chie are all invited to the main house for the big reveal.
Nana goes on to reveal the dark history of the Ebisumori family, which is far scarier than I expected. There are two main elements to this: the miko and the ohara. The miko is a child empowered to inherit the godly abilities of the family's original priestess from centuries ago. This process involves using a specific item during gestation to ensure the child is born with these powers; the longer the item is in contact, the stronger the abilities become. Nana herself had very little contact with the item, which resulted in her being a weak psychic.

The second part of the history is even worse: the second daughter of the family takes the role of the ohara and is sacrificed so the family can produce a cursed child, which they then use for profit or to curse others. This is how the family became so powerful, and Mirai technically holds that position following her aunt, Yoshie. Yoshie was like a mother to Mirai. When Mirai discovered Yoshie's book among her belongings years after her death, she became enraged and fled the family entirely.
She took the item needed for the curse with her and planned to use it herself. She mentioned doing it correctly "this time", which suggests she already tried this in the past with Kaya, though Kaya unexpectedly became a miko instead, much to her mother's dismay. Now Mirai is trying again to destroy the Ebisumori family altogether. I wonder if she is still sane or if she is being influenced by the cursed item itself.
The Ebisumori family seems to have declined significantly. The fact that Mutsu did not send anyone to retrieve Mirai suggests she might have wanted to leave her alone at that point. Who is the target of Mirai's curse? Nana had nothing to do with the situation and cannot be held accountable, and Mutsu is already dead. Is she targeting another family member?
We are now in a strange situation. Mirai has left the hospital to carry out her plan, while Nana and the others must prepare a plan of action. They likely want to save Mirai and restore her sanity for Kaya’s sake, but will it be that simple? Also, what will happen to the wraith inside her? Will it be born normally like Kaya was, or is it something else entirely?

Next week is the final episode, and I firmly believe Kaya will be the one to deliver the final strike to end the curse. After all, it is her story, and it would be fitting for her to end the curse with one of her punches. I am curious to see where the manga shifts its focus after this arc is settled. Can the tension be maintained now that most of the secrets have been revealed?
