Psycho Pass S2 - Whoa, Akane looks quite different from the first seasonDecember 13, 2025 ยท 3:00 PM

Today I started watching the second season of Psycho-Pass. I went through the first episode just to see what the focus of this season is going to be before diving deeper into the rest of the episodes. It helps that the first episode felt very self-contained.

Akane visually looks so much more adult compared to before, even if only a year and a half has passed since the events of the last season (at least according to what the other Inspector said). In terms of ability and actions, she seems similar to the last episode of the first season when she was cornering Makishima. She has clearly matured though in the way she relate to others.

The first episode works as a sort of summary of the mechanics of this world: the Psycho-Pass system, the Dominator gun, the Inspector/Enforcer dynamic, and the unreliability of the system. It does quite a good job of using "show, don't tell" to make viewers accustomed to the concepts very quickly.

We also get introduced to the new villain of this season. At the very end, a mysterious person appears and kills an Enforcer using a Dominator stolen from an Inspector. We don't know exactly who he is, though, because he doesn't seem to be visualized at all by the Dominator. It seems like he is a ghost of some sort. His face looks familiar, but I can't put my finger on exactly where I have seen him yet.

Hope to see a less serious Akane too soon. Hope to see a less serious Akane too soon.
More Akane! More Akane!

Did someone find a way to hide from the system altogether? The helmets of the first season were one thing (they just copied the Psycho-Pass from nearby people), but in this case, he completely didn't appear. It seems way more advanced than that.

Also, the new partner Inspector of Akane seems to be another landmine waiting to explode. Her comments after Akane technically saved the criminal from being obliterated by lowering his Psycho-Pass were telling. Will she end up shifting to become an Enforcer too later, or die altogether?

The new team, but the other girl seems like a troubling one. The new team, but the other girl seems like a troubling one.
That scene was cool! That scene was cool!

I am looking forward to watching the next episode soon and coming back here for more thoughts.
