Seihantai na Kimi to Boku Ep.08 - Shino x Taira is finally moving!

Episode 8 of the anime series Seihantai na Kimi to Boku (You and I Are Polar Opposites) finally shifts the focus to the pair I was most looking forward to seeing: Shino Azuma and Taira Shuuji. While the episode still includes segments featuring Miyu and Yuusuke, those have started to feel less important to me recently.

Although Miyu and Yuusuke are the protagonists of the series, they are already a couple and face very little conflict or challenge. Their interactions are cute, but they can become somewhat boring to follow over a long period. I am sure the author realizes this, which is why the series continues to introduce more couples whose relationships are still developing.

Seriously though, I fully agree with Taira here. Girl, get back to them why are you acting nice to everyone?

While Shino is not my favorite heroine, she's definitely growing in me as a character.

In this episode, the group meets a few old friends at a bowling alley. Shuuji is worried they will come over and start talking, but Shino assures him that they will not. Apparently, she used to date one of them and was almost involved with another, both of whom ended up dating other girls in that same group.

Naturally, they avoid a direct confrontation, as a reunion would be extremely awkward given the "telenovela" level of interconnected relationships between the characters. Shuuji, apparently, was completely oblivious to everything happening around him back then.

This is the scene that really startled Shino and the beginning of their relationship I'm sure. Just look at how she was looking at him... View video page

On the way home, Shino and Shuuji are left alone, and Shuuji finally speaks up. He complains about Shino’s behavior, asking her why she never gets angry, referring to how she always tries to be kind and forgiving toward others. Shino is taken completely by surprise, as she did not expect him to get so agitated on her behalf.

As they talk on the way home, Shino realizes she has had similar thoughts herself but never managed to put them into words. While nothing is stated outright, her response when Shuuji apologizes the next day is very telling. She previously mentioned that she always forgives the person she likes.

Problems zero, thoughts zero. That's Watanabe Manami for you.

The realization that she might start to like Taira was hitting her hard on the way back home.

I am honestly very excited to see where the story goes with these two in the coming episodes. There is not much time left before this adaptation concludes, so the pace will need to accelerate if they want to wrap everything up. Either that, or they will have to announce a second season.
