Tai-Ari deshita. Ojousama wa Kakutou Game nante Shinai Ep.01 - Shirayuri forever!
Tai-Ari deshita: Ojousama wa Kakutou Game nante Shinai is a series that started airing today, based on a manga of the same name written and illustrated by Eri Ejima, which currently has 10 volumes and is still ongoing. This has been one of the surprises of this anime season for me.
The story follows the life of Aya Mitsuki as she enters an all-girls school named Kuromi Girls Academy in her pursuit of becoming a "high-class lady." Her plan didn't work out as well as expected, as she feels out of place within a school populated with many true high-class girls from rich families.

There, she meets Yorue Mio, a beautiful girl everyone calls "Shirayuri-sama," and their encounter changes everything about how she experiences school. Why? Well, for starters, Mio is a heavy fighting game lover (Street Fighter), and this reignites the passion Aya had hidden within her.
It's no secret to anyone that I like yuri series, but I honestly wasn't sure what to expect out of this because the combination of fighting games and high-class ladies is not exactly an easy one to pull off. Hilariously, though, the author balances the two aspects perfectly, and the first episode was a delight to watch. The kabedon scene (see attached video) was honestly a joy.
The two work well together. Mio seems to be a pushy type who doesn't really realize what she's doing, you know, mindlessly pushing forward! Meanwhile, Aya is the "voice of reason," more controlled and rational. Of course, that can easily invert if Aya reverts to her usual self from back when she loved fighting games.
Now that their "partner-in-crime" relationship is established, it remains to be seen what the focus of the next episodes will be. It could involve solidifying their relationship by spending time together during their normal school life, or perhaps introducing other characters with the same passion.

I see that four girls are marked as "main" in the story, so I'm expecting this to become a "club" story where multiple girls spend their time honing their (fighting game) skills and finding love. How are they going to play this out to go against the regulations of the school that prohibit using video games?
Either way, I'm excited about this series, and it'll be one that I definitely cover every week on this blog. Honestly, I'm even thinking of getting the manga once this is over; 10 volumes mean the anime is not going to cover them all... well, unless they go for two seasons, of course.
