Wuthering Waves 3.7 - Just how adorable can Hsin get? Way more?!

Patch 3.7 of Wuthering Waves is here, and as usual, they went all out when it comes to special effects and the overall quality of the story's presentation. Hsin, as predicted, was at the center of this patch, with her role as the Sentinel explained and various hints given regarding the next step of Rover's journey.

Hsin is supposedly the first playable Sentinel, but it turns out things were a lot more complicated: she was created by the Sentinel as a proxy to work toward restoring her original form. She didn't succeed in her purpose and always felt it was wrong to keep living as a Sentinel she never truly was.

This is probably the most beautiful art of Hsin that we got, she really gives that mature and beautiful lady vibe while keeping the magical aspect.

The final animation has lots of other characters appearing even though they were absent from the main quest because of the usual 'heroine of the week' syndrome.

There were lots of details given about Ovathrax's invasion of Jinzhou back when Hsin was still active, but nothing really adds to the actual threat of the Threnodian beyond what we already knew. Honestly, it felt like they rehashed the same scenes from the previous two patches with the whole "we're proud Jinzhou soldiers, let's sacrifice ourselves" trope. We understand it; now move on and do something different.

While I enjoyed most of it, I can't deny that it felt like a companion quest for Hsin. In some ways, it felt like a higher-quality version of what we've already gone through with Shorekeeper, Yuno, and other heroines: the cycle of finding a heroine, putting her in danger, having her decide to sacrifice herself, having Rover save her, and wrapping up with a happy ending.

One thing that surprised me is how small Suoming was, I was expecting her to be shorter than Rover, but she's Verina coded!

Many of the Wuthering Waves storylines seem to fall into that pattern, using top-tier animations and other high production values to mask it. It's not inherently a problem, as I still enjoyed this chapter, but I feel like it lacked the impact I felt during the Shorekeeper story. I didn't get that "I need to save her" feeling that I had back then...

I haven't had the time to check out the new gameplay, but I sure hope they plan on making the battle against Giant Suhsin playable outside of the story, because it was amazing. A giant lady battle is definitely something I was not expecting to see in Wuthering Waves, that's for sure.

A god among mortal is a common trope and Hsin works pretty well for that with her past being that complicated.

Now, where can I get two beautiful fox girls like Hsin and her double to fluff their tail all day? Just look at that tail!

Story-wise, they also delivered a few hints about things to come. Mainly, they showed Yinlin making her first appearance in the main story as an ally of Hsin. Apparently, Hsin and Suoming are preparing an alliance of people from various backgrounds to do something, but the finer details aren't clear yet.

At this point, we're near the end of the 3.x patch cycle, so I'm already wondering when we'll get the first leaks about the New Federation and the characters that will appear within it. I remember that for Mengzhou, we got a full six-character preview right after the preceding patch dropped...
