Champignon no Majo Ep.08 - White magic in action! That was ominous.
Episode 8 of Champignon no Majo continues from where we left off, with Lizel slowly losing weight because he is unable to eat the food that Luna cooks. Apparently, Black Witches do not require traditional nutrition; they derive all their necessary energy from the nature around them. This causes Luna to not know what makes a food good in the first place even if she's curious about the whole eating concept.
Considering what we have seen so far, they feel more like druids than witches in the strictest sense. This would also explain why they are usually connected to one specific natural phenomenon, such as Luna with mushrooms or other witches linked to specific creatures like cats or birds.

Luna, realizing she is at fault, starts trying to cook something that will make Lizel happy. However, her status as the Champignon Witch causes her to be rejected by all store owners, forcing her to rely on third parties to provide ingredients at exorbitant prices using most of her funds.
Watching Luna go through this weighs heavily on Lizel, who starts emanating more and more miasma. He knows that writing in his diary would "throw away" those emotions, but he does not want to forget the effort Luna is making for him; he wants to remember her kindness.
Just as the teaching experience looks like it is going poorly (with Luna and Claude wondering what will happen once the examination arrives), Lizel finally begins to awaken as a Witch, specifically a White Witch. Apparently, White Witches obtain their power differently, primarily by charming spirits and requesting their strength.
In Lizel's case, his power centers on singing, and he uses his love for Luna (which has been proven in multiple scenes) as fuel to propel it forward. He clearly still has fragmented memories from when he was older, so the idea of him being a love interest for Luna is becoming more realistic.

While this seems like a happy scene, the narrator points out that it will spell trouble for Luna in the near future. This is likely because the other White Witches will want to control Lizel's power. I suspect this will force Lizel to become a protector instead of being the one protected, as he mentioned in a previous scene.
The next episode is titled "The House in the Black Forest," and I wonder what that refers to. I do not recall Luna's house being located in such a forest, so perhaps a new character is being introduced. I am really curious to see how Lizel will start to use his newfound power.
