Hyakkano Season 3 Ep.12 - Nice ending. Shizuka! Keep going!

Episode 12 of Hyakkano concludes the season with the unexpected, serious, Shizuka-focused storyline that started last week, centered around her relationship with her mother. While the developments were pretty predictable, I wasn't expecting to get something so drama-heavy in this series.

You know, after 11 episodes of pure, unadulterated fun, getting roughly 10 to 15 minutes of genuine human drama was kind of surprising, and I'm not sure if I liked it. We had something similar with Hakari back in Season 1, but that felt a lot less grounded compared to this clash between mother and daughter.

This is the total cast of heroines up to today, that's a lot of people and we're nowhere near done. Who will be added next to his stash?!

Her eyes were scary for most of the interaction, but even Shizuka's mother is, in the end, just a mom worried about her kid.

Her mother wanted her to be more like other kids so life would be easier for her as an adult, probably having been scarred by something in her own past. Rentarou's attempts to convince her were nice, but it was, of course, Shizuka who managed to reach her heart, bringing about a happy ending and reconciliation.

Then we return to the finale proper, which was a mash-up of all the heroines reaffirming their quirks and spending some time with Rentarou. Honestly, it felt like a series finale when God appeared and had an earnest chat with Rentarou about his approach to the girls.

We even got to see adult Kusuri back, and yes, I like her adult version way more than her annoying child form. I know being annoying is her entire quirk, but the difference is incredible. Plus, her child form now conflicts with her grandmother, who shares the same size and appearance...

My favorite heroine remains Hahari, and at this point, I doubt anyone can possibly dethrone her. She's not just beautiful; she's fun, and her antics are usually what fuel the comedy of the series. After all, many episodes this season were set in motion by her arranging something using her authority as the school's chairwoman...

Watching Shizuka cry like this was really hard to watch, she's always been the cute little animal of the cast...

Thankfully she's back to normal and now she has also a better relationship with her mother too!

Now the question that remains is, "Will there be a fourth season?" We have no answer to that as of today. I'm still leaning toward waiting a few months before starting the manga, because the adaptation is so good that I might as well wait to see the heroines fully animated...
