Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi Ep.12 - Okonogi Maki sees the truth!
Episode 12 of Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi (A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans) properly introduces the new students, Maki Okonogi and Aoi Wakaba, while setting the stage for next week's series finale, which will return the focus to Mirai and Hitoma.
While Aoi Wakaba was only introduced on a surface level as an elf, Maki Okonogi’s story takes on much more significance because of her innate power. Maki is an Oni and can see whether people are telling the truth by perceiving colors. Blue represents the truth, red indicates a lie, and purple is somewhere in between.

This ability caused Maki to be shunned by her mother, who started out blue but turned more and more red as time went on. Maki wants to become human so she can have a normal relationship with her. This is all in line with the typical stories delivered in this series, but the real surprise comes from how she perceives the school's two main teachers.
Hitoma appears almost entirely blue, meaning he is truthful, while Mirai appears almost entirely red whenever she speaks with Hitoma. This implies that she has been lying to him about everything. It suggests she is not over what happened in high school and indicates that the final episode must focus on resolving that conflict.
The most reasonable explanation is that she feels responsible for lying during those past events, which caused him to lose his job, but I am open to surprises. I honestly liked her high school self a lot and wonder if she can return to being more honest with herself after they settle this situation.
The next episode is the series finale, titled "The Misanthrope and the Nigh Future." The English title does not quite capture the wordplay intended by the creators, as "Future" translates to "Mirai." This essentially confirms that the ending will feature a one-on-one confrontation between Hitoma and her.

This series is the last one to air among those I am currently following, so it marks the end of the season for me. I have already decided on some of the series I want to follow weekly in the upcoming season, but I will keep an eye out for any surprises depending on how the first few episodes go.
