Kirio Fanclub Ep.01 - Nami and Aimi. Kirio being faceless was perfect.
Episode 01 of Kirio Fanclub (霧尾ファンクラブ) starts the new spring 2026 season with a bang for me, with an episode focused on introducing the two protagonists of this story: Nami and Aimi, two high school girls who are close friends and have somehow ended up in love with the same guy, Kirio.
The two haven't even talked to him once; they observe him from afar, fantasizing about situations where they could get to know him better or perhaps even go out with him. I'm guilty of fantasizing about dream situations sometimes, so I can relate to their feelings.
The series is adapted from a manga with the same name written and illustrated by Chikyuu no Osakana Pon-chan that has completed serializing with 6 volumes released between 2022 and 2024. Considering the low number of volumes and completed status, there's a good chance we're getting it fully animated.

The two girls are normal, and saying that alone may look weird, but considering the context of anime, it bears a lot of weight. We're not talking about the typical anime girls who are incredibly attractive with hot body types and similar looks. We're talking about two plain girls that you could really find anywhere.
I kind of laughed when they showed Kirio for the first time; he didn't have a face at all and was treated like one of those NPC-like characters. It was even more evident considering that there are other guys in the story and they're all normally drawn, only he is special.
I still can't understand what kind of person he is, but judging from the joke that he told them in that small scene, I'm wondering if they're overly fantasizing about him and he's actually a lot less impressive than they think. You know, love makes you see things through rose-tinted glasses.
So far, I'm liking Nami the most when it comes to looks and personality, but that's pretty much because Aimi is sometimes completely unhinged with her behavior. I mean, would you think it's normal to sleep while chanting "I hope to see Kirio in my dreams" over and over again until falling asleep?!

This series is, for me, a keeper, and I'm going to keep covering it weekly on this blog despite not expecting huge developments from it. I'm really curious about what kind of adventures the two will get into and if, eventually, they'll actually manage to get to know Kirio better.
