Kirio Fanclub Ep.02 - Is this yuri? Wait, why was that girl looking from outside?
Episode 02 of Kirio Fanclub (霧尾ファンクラブ) took me by surprise by interleaving mystery within a series I thought was purely a comedy. The episode starts with the usual hilarity by introducing a new character named Satsuki, who is shown to be quite close with Kirio, much to the jealousy of Aimi and Nami.
The two girls decide to start stalking her to see if she has any weaknesses, but it turns out she is popular with classmates, good at sports, and friendly with everyone. Basically, it’s impossible to even compare yourself to her. Though, honestly, she didn't seem very interested in Kirio in those scenes to me.

Nami and Aimi are still as fun as in the first episode, with nice banter, and they even end up creating an entire song dedicated to Kirio with some questionable lyrics, especially in the first part about licking his tears. It was actually good, a bit creepy, but good music and vocals! I liked it!
Then the mystery began to deepen, and the tone shifted from comedy to "what the hell is happening here?" First, we have a girl outside the building observing the pair from afar; then, we have Satsuki asking Kirio which of the two is his type, causing Kirio to leave his friends with an excuse.
Next, we have the reveal that Hayato is in love with someone from his class, which heavily implies it has to be one of the two girls. Finally, we have Aimi's lie and Nami's truth. Aimi lies about when she fell in love with Kirio, while Nami tells the truth, stating that she fell in love with him in the third year of middle school, implying that she has known him much longer than we expected.
Then it dawned on me: Nami’s way of speaking was intentionally generic. She said, "My crush started in the third year of middle school," but that doesn't mean it's Kirio. It could just mean that her first crush was someone else, perhaps someone like Aimi. Am I going crazy for seeing a possible yuri ship between the two? Nami has always been the one who felt the least "involved" in the devotion to Kirio, so things seem to match...

I was originally interested because of the comedy delivered in the first episode, but now I'm totally hooked and want to know more about the relationships between these characters. Who loves whom? Are we about to witness a yuri romance happening in the background of the whole Kirio situation? I can't wait to see what happens next week.
