Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoushitsu Ep.05 - Spica x Aria! I knew it!

Episode 5 of Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoushitsu, just as previewed last week, is dedicated almost entirely to exploring the complicated relationship between the protagonist, Spica Virgo, and her best friend/rival, Aria Aquarius, in more detail.

The episode goes pretty much as I expected: Spica is struggling with magic, and Claude suggests getting in touch with Aria, as she appears to be one of the most talented magicians in the class. Spica does so, but Aria decides it's time to tease her and, in the process, reveals a bit more about their past together.

You'd think she wouldn't enforce the loser bet, but seems like not. Aria is a girl of her word and wouldn't give up such a chance.

Apparently Aria imitated everything that Spica did and always did it better than her. I know the reasoning, but poor Spica

Aria's relationship with Spica can be summarized as "bullying the girl you like". Everything she does seems to be centered on trying to get Spica's attention; I'm not sure if she fully realizes this or does it unconsciously. I don't mind either way, though, yuri is yuri!

The second part of the episode was instead a small segment from the point of view of Sirius Claude as he's trying to find the right person to take the role of class leader. He uses his cat form to explore the campus and finds that most of the students are really quite eccentric.

Just looking at the smirk Aria does whenever Spica is involved makes me smile. I wish they'll do more of these episodes in the future, I love them! View video page

We get to see the remaining characters who weren't introduced in the first batch a few episodes ago. Cancer Tarf and Sagittarius Aldea Chiron seem to be close to each other, with the latter being a royal and the former being his attendant. Honestly, it's not a very interesting combination, but it's a classic.

Then we have Pisces Merrow, who seems to be an airhead heroine who loves making friends with the fish she summons with her magic. And then there is Capricorn Capella, who is the most interesting of those introduced in this round. She's serious and diligent, immediately detecting the magic on Claude's cat body and dispelling it with her Capricorn magic.

Admittedly though, how is it possible to make pancake become that black Spica? It requires talent on its own.

Spica sleeping so peacefully that I'm starting to think I should get to bed too, it's just way too good.

It's a shame that she apparently hates being called diligent because she thinks she's "bad," so it creates a rift when Claude asks her to become leader. You know how it is, young people who want to act badass? That kind of thing, but honestly, it only makes her even cuter in my eyes.

The next episode is titled "Midterms," and it will be focused on the first dungeon experience for the heroines. This time, it's time for Spica to team up with the gloomy Sasorijou Hana, the scorpion magic girl. Apparently, she is under pressure from her family to perform, and I wonder if this is going to lead to disaster. I'm really looking forward to seeing if she mellows out after being near Spica.
