Nikke PROJECT MATIS - Whoa Syuen was so adorable back then...

Nikke has just released a new event titled 'PROJECT: MATIS,' which centers on the backstory of Syuen and the creation of the Matis squad, explaining exactly why Syuen was so obsessed with them throughout the main story. We have had many hints spread throughout the story so far, and this event clarifies her true motivations.

As expected, Syuen is the result of trauma inflicted by her father from an early age, which caused her to become who she is now. She first lost her maid (who probably wasn't even spying in the first place), then her friend and mother figure, Maxwell, and eventually, her heart became what it is today.

They could've been a nice mother and daughter if it wasn't for that crazy father. Just look at Syuen's smile...

One thing is that now I realize she's really a kid. Initially I thought she was just a very short woman...

My relationship with Syuen in the game has always been a weird love/hate situation; there are moments when you want to punch her in the face, but then moments where you think, 'Oh, she's actually adorable, isn't she?' This only makes it more difficult to handle because, in the end, she's just a kid trying to cope with her trauma.

They perfectly handled all the hints left in the main story: her reluctance to use memory erasure on the Matis squad, her terror toward her sister, and her disdain for Nikkes as a coping mechanism to appear strong. Never showing weakness is her trademark, something trauma engraved in her.

Poor Syuen, she really didn't deserve all that. And now...probably more will happen.

Her biggest desire was to be accepted by her father, to get praised and loved. Something her father wasn't willing to give her because he wanted to make her crave for it and become more and more of a monster while guiding his company. He had ulterior plans, but nobody knows them as of now.

The first part ends with Syuen's first meeting with Laplace and the true beginning of the project to create a new generation of Nikkes. I expect things will not go well for them because, well, this is Nikke. Nothing ever goes right whenever it's not about the protagonist and their squad.

What happened to him is still left unknown, I'm hoping he gets his payback soon because...

The fated meeting, now where will it go from here? Probably become friend because that will hurt more...

I found it hard to watch some of the scenes, and this only made me more motivated to catch up on the main story, hoping that Syuen makes a big comeback. I've honestly been quite behind on my progress there, for one reason or another, never finding the willpower to continue...

Honestly, I'm really curious to see where it goes from here and how Maxwell ended up becoming a Nikke. The notes in the story seem to point to a Rapture attack, but I wonder what caused it. Is it something involving her sister or father? Because those two are really...
