Yowayowa Sensei Vol 17,18 - Jealousy is over the top. What are you doing Hiyori?!

Volumes 17 and 18 of Yowayowa Sensei (よわよわ先生) continue from where we left off, with the advances toward Akihito becoming more and more direct from all the heroines. This time around, even Hiyori joins in, with her jealousy reaching its peak whenever another girl tries to get too close to him.

She's basically starting to drop the "teacher" role, and it feels like we're approaching the endgame when it comes to this story. The original premise of the "scary, but actually cute teacher" is basically gone at this point, leaving us with a standard club romantic comedy that is closing in on the main heroine.

Akihito is also making progress, having managed to take first place on the school exam, but the hurdle of actually confessing to his own teacher is still huge, regardless of Hiyori's personality. He's in his third year, though, so it's just a matter of time before that student-teacher dynamic dissolves, which is probably the best moment to confess and get a positive answer.

You know, I've gotten so used to see Hiyori in these poses that it doesn't really impact me that much anymore. How is this effect called?

Hiyori immediately pulling out her uniform after Akihito's comment 'cute' on her old photo was hilariously cute.

It's impossible for the series to take another route at this point, but I'm curious to see where the other girls land. Yuuki can easily become the family pet or something, but what about Mizuki? Unless they go for a harem ending, I can't see her getting a happy ending out of this, which is a shame.

That's not to say she hasn't been making progress: in one segment in these volumes, they end up taking shelter in a love hotel temporarily, and she catches Akihito getting flustered while looking at her in the bathroom. I know it's only natural considering how attractive she is, but it's progress nonetheless from her perspective. Of course, she went completely berserk in that scene and ended up creeping him out, but hey, you can't win them all.

You know, I always wanted to get a puppy at home. Now I feel like I should get two instead, both Hiyori and Mizuki. Opinions?

This was unexpectedly hot, mostly because you didn't expect Tsukushi to end up in that alluring position.

The other minor heroines all got their share of visibility, some more and some less. Kohana and Kaya only got passing mentions, while Tsukushi and Masakuni had actual scenes dedicated to them. The real star was Erika, who got quite a bit of page time and is slowly rising in the ranks. She is still confused about her own feelings, but at the same time feels like the best match for Akihito when it comes to raw compatibility, far more than Hiyori or Mizuki.

I haven't mentioned Yuuki yet, but she's basically omnipresent, staying at Akihito's house for long periods of time. She's more of a mascot character, though, so I doubt anyone even considers her a threat. Her dream is to be pampered and taken care of by Akihito. In her career preference survey, she listed "Akihito's wife," "Akihito's pet," and "Akihito's kid" as her top three choices, so...

Erika always arrives at the right time to see people in complicated situations. Come on!

Masakuni continues to deliver with the whole t-back theory. The gap between what she wears and how she looks is great.

The next volume will be all about swimsuits, though somehow that doesn't feel all that exciting because the sheer volume of ecchi mishaps in this series makes swimsuits feel almost puritanical by comparison. Joking aside, everyone is going to a private beach owned by Erika's family to have some fun together.

Will Akihito manage to confess on this occasion, or will it just end with another splash of water? How is Hiyori going to react to all the other girls trying to approach him? I feel like Volume 20 might be the finale if the author wants to keep the number clean, but it's not out yet, so who knows...
